Yeah, apart from Rozees snap we never really looked like kicking a goal in the last half of that qtr. Georgie taking marks 60m+ from goal with no target inside 50 was the best we could do.
Felt like the prelim against Richmond where you just knew we weren't going to be able to get it done.
Frustrating to watch when you know the only fallback the players have is "just work harderer"
Frustrating is a word that’s going to used a lot in his time at Port.
We need to get used to it.

The problem is we have a few like this and it’s hard to win regularly when you have too many players that are erratic or unreliable.

Lukosius
Marshall - even when fit
Sinn
Jones
Farrell
BZT
Ratugolea - until his last six games

We can all see the talent in things they do but for every two good moments they have a head-shaking effort or fail to execute something they should do well.

Carr has to press on this group the need to be consistent and reliable all the time in every contest if he wants to take us to the promised land.

This bloke's calf exploded exemplified everything this season has been. All the club's own doing too.
It’s emblematic of the sloppiness which has defined the way we’ve approached the season.

Sloppy preparation, sloppy rehab, sloppy selections, sloppy game style, sloppy skill execution.

With some good coaching from Carr and a better game plan with good forward movement, Jack will be a very good player, especially when JHF is back with his delightful kicking skills.
Coming in peace,

As someone who watched Jack for years, his biggest problem is that he needs to ball delivered to him on a silver platter to have any major impact.

Now, that's not to say he doesn't try, but he's not a good contested mark or overhead mark, nor is he particularly effective below the knees.

what he does do really well is lead strongly and he's an excellent kick from up to 60 out from goal.

With the year you're having - injuries aside, he was never going to flourish. It's the same reason he struggled under Dimmas gamestyle. Dump kicks forward that either rely on a contested grab or chaotic ground ball, neither of which he is good at.

If you guys get Nasiah, having a fit and healthy Butters, NWM, Rozee, Bergman and JHF delivering the ball to him, I think you'll notice how much more effective he is.

he's not the player to drag your team over the line in a rough, chaotic contest but he's an excellent finisher for a team with a good midfield, which you have.

PS good luck with the Nas trade if it happens

There were moments last night where you saw how effective a Georgie/Luko combo could have been this year. Hopefully we get to see that consistently in the coming seasons.

He's in our top 10 season goalkickers playing 6 games (5 really with the Richmond game not counting)

A Georgie, Luko/Marshall, Whitlock combo.

Whitlock is the prototype ruck/forward that makes the combo work.

Marshall and Luko fighting each other for that CHF spot will be good for both of them.

Not much use having these players up forward if the delivery is shit.
Been the same all year, plenty of forward entries with bugger all return.
Don’t think changing the game plan will make any difference, poor foot skills are forever, Wines and Boak perfect examples.
Guys that can’t kick to save their life’s like Mead need to be rid of.
We need to be serious going forward or we’re in for more of this crap for years to come.

Can we play all 4? Georgiades closest to goal. Marshall CHF. Whitlock 3rd tall/second ruck, Lukosius high roaming half forward?

You’d really worry about that group going into a big final wouldn’t you

I'd worry about Jones alone going into a big final before even worrying about the rest of them.

Agreed, our skills in general are bog average. I watched Port closely last night and some of our H/B that missed the target was terrible and it wasn't only the young guys, Wines although he played a reasonable game as did Boak were two of the main offenders.

As for DBJ I am confused, some games he's saving goals and kicking goals but last night H/B errors and in and out of the game.

For Carr to succeed I am convinced we need a pure skills coach for kicking hand balling and marking and a good tackling coach, to many opposition players break our tackles way to easy.

Boak went at 91% d/E. Hardly missed a target. You watch the game? I know he can be wayward but not last night

You could play all 4 - Lukosius, Georgiades, Marshall and Whitlock- in good weather. But on a slippery, wet day/night, no.
Surely Whitlock gets the third gig when ready because he can ruck.

You look at Finny and Lord and Marshall and they just don't want to be in there.

If Whitlock can mark and kick goals, he will be super invaluable to our structures two times over.
