That's not on a yearly basis though, fairly sure that report is what the player is getting paid that year. And Luko had his contract frontloaded so 1 mil last year would make sense. Average I think is around 8-900k

The Herald Sun published a list of what they believe to be the highest 100 paid players in the AFL. They had Lukosius at number 34 on a salary guess/estimate of between $900K and $1M. Players 26 to 35 were all guessed to be in that same salary range so the order is completely arbitrary. If they actually know what the players are being paid surely they would use that figure and rank the players accordingly.

He almost immediately got a freak impact injury and then had soft tissue issues trying to rush back from that without a proper preseason. Despite that he was solid in the famously effective and efficient Ken Hinkley forward line in a year where the entire club had put the cue in the rack prior to his return from injury.

He hasn't been injury prone throughout his career and there's no reason to think he will be moving forward.

Our first ended up being Pick 11. Let's just see how that goes before we throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The price for Lukosius was fine. When you don't prioritise drafting KPF's early for most of 13 years, you're inevitably going to have to pay up to get an established one. Even if they are average (with potential to be more).

A lot of anger/frustration with Lukosius, rather than directing it all at Hinkley and co. for not drafting/developing KPF's AND Jack getting heat for practically giving away Houston. If Port had gotten the (bare minimum) reasonable price of another first into for Houston and used that for Lukosius, so we'd kept ours for 2025, he'd be getting a lot less heat.

It’s like a lot of things in life, people judge it in comparison to what you paid for it.
I believe we should have got at least a second round pick coming back our way.

As has been highlighted earlier in the thread, the trade of a F1 for Luko was done on the reasonable assumption that we’d be finishing around the top end of the ladder and it would’ve been a pick that landed 15+ in a draft we clearly didn’t rate.

It was a reasonable gamble to get a talented KPF into the club - which aren’t cheap.

An unfortunate year with injury for the club has meant the price blew out to ultimately pick 11 in a draft we did not rate.

Frankly, that’s at the lower end of the going rate for a good, talented KPF.

Dixon (at the same age and with a fairly similar output to date at the suns) cost us Pick 10 and a future second rounder as an example - and while Dixon has a mixed reputation around here, I think most would agree that the trade was good value for Port.

Either way, it shows that the benchmark value for a good KPF is higher than what we actually paid for Luko - and based on what I’ve seen to date, he has the talent and ability to deliver on that.

So I think the crying over the price paid for Luko is misplaced, and if he comes on like he showed in the majority of uninjured games he played this season, he should actually be a steal.

As for the money he’s on, respectfully who cares? You need to pay to get KPFs in the door, and he hasn’t forced anyone out the door due to a salary cap squeeze (and it doesn’t seem like the contract will in future, as we’ve been widely reported to have plenty of cap to sign-up Butters and still go after NWM) - so why is this something worth whinging about?

It seems like you just dislike Luko / he’s your club whipping boy, and you’re just looking for a reason to complain about him.

Again, give him a clear run at it with injury next season while playing in a functional forwardline thanks to the new Carr game plan, and Luko will thrive.

I don't see why they can't go with what clubs are doing.

E>g. Port has X on minimum salary, Y on $300k-$400k .... with how many in each $100k band. Then how many are on 'legal' third party payments and what they total. Giving fans info about how their clubs are managing player salaries, without explicitly saying who is getting what.
