Have you been to a game lately? It's like being at a funeral, i felt like i was getting looked at and judged if i ever spoke. Sunday the crowd couldn't have been tamer.
That’s a surprise with a new coach and all the preseason hype.
Maybe people are coming around to the idea that there’s going to be some pain going forward.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but according to the club's website Jack Lukosius's ratings average for the first two rounds were,

Disposals - Elite
Marks - Elite
Kicks - Elite
Tackles - Elite
Goals - Above average
Goal Accuracy - Above average

As of about 10 minutes ago his numbers for the wet toast game are not yet included, but if the metrics for giving those ratings are in any way a serious measure of a player's performance it would have to be extremely difficult for the term `Elite' to survive Sunday's extremely poor effort!
Well, helps when his first game back was Essendon to pad stats and he started against Eagles good.

When he gets the ball he is good, but he has been afraid of contact by the looks, not prepared to put his body on the line.

Statically been great so far

Yep, he's very good with ball in hand. If he could hold a mark while an opponent was within 5m of him he might get the ball enough to be damaging.

Clearly doesn’t include the Toast game.
One mark and 12 dropped does NOT equate to elite.

Zero effective tackles does not equate to elite.

Unless we’re using David Koch’s comparative measurement algorithm for judging elite performance (finals is a pass mark, etc) 😵‍💫😒

It definitely shouldn't. But I don't think the leadership group would have any say in that matter. No way they'll have $1million salary play SANFL in the 2nd of the 6 year deal.

Just typing that out is criminal. What an absolute list management disaster. Time we move on Jason Cripps.
Yeh makes me feel sick. Agree we need fresh eyes in our recruitment team.

I didn’t even think he was that bad on Sunday lol.
He wasn’t best on ground, but he certainly was far from the worst. So many in here being way over the top.
His lack of physicality was a disgrace. If my teamate is continually putting in those limp efforts I would want them out of the team. What gives Jack the right to think he can waltz around choosing which plays he wants to be involved in when other teammates are working hard & making a physical contest. He has no right to wear a Port jumper. This is the problem with our club atm, they keep making poor decisions then spend years covering them up which just redirects energy to all the wrong places. Have the guts to keep him in the 2s until he changes his approach. An example needs to be set & setting it with a highly paid player is a great place to start.

after this year Luko will be a wingman or tall defender (if he isn't playing in the SANFL)

this is because our tall forwards will be MG, Whitlock & D Cochrane

after next year our tall forwards will be MG, Whitlock, Pilot & D Cochrane

And these tall forwards will have Durdin, Berry, Richards SPP, T Cochrane, Zadow & maybe JHF running around these tall forwards feet

Bit of a double edged sword with luko. Wont get dropped because our tall stocks are already running thin. Then our only genuine replacement is Ollie Lord who should never step foot on an AFL pitch again. The “at least Lord completes” doesnt ignore the fact that he has worse disposal than Luko, cant kick straight from a set shot, cant take a contested mark for a big man, continually runs under the ball and lets his own man run riot.

If you wanted players who at least compete/give it a go we should of kept Kane Mitchell and Sam Gray to 250 games.

Im afraid we will be stuck in this predicament for the rest of the year

He kicks that open goal snap from 20m out, 2 goal game isn't bad. His dropped marks were an issue. Mitch's dropped marks and wayward kicking were a problem too. Between the 2 of them I don't know who dropped more marks.

He's not a babe in the woods, learning the craft, trying to understand the game player...

He's 25 and has played 125 AFL games. He's one of our highest paid players.

Talks of "giving him a chance" (what, the 125 games weren't enough?) and "but he's got a good kick when he gets it" (so would current state Stewy Dew) are misplaced in my opinion.

He's a squib and squibs never un-squib themselves. They might for a moment or two and/or they might get lucky in a game or two and look good, but you cannot teach (or learn for that matter) a yearning for the contest. You either have it or you don't. He doesn't have it.

He's the epitome of everything going wrong with the club over the last few years. All sizzle no sausage.

Best we can hope for is we find a role for him to hide his squib-ness for 2026 and look to trade in 2027.

A lot of positives?

I hate to think what the good teams will do to us if you saw a lot of positives in that performance.

That game was nothing to write home about apart from Witlock.
For a start, maybe learn to read und understand English!

I did not say I saw a lot of positives in the team's "performance." I merely said I that I saw positives - full-stop!. A big difference in meaning.

  • The first quarter was great. Excellent ball movement through the middle. Skills were up. A lot to like
  • Rategolea was a rock down back, never out-marked, so disappointing to see him limp off.
  • Georgiades continued his rise, looking great early. Easily has it in him to wine the Coleman
  • Whitlock cementing himself as one of the top forwards from the last draft, so exciting to see. Bargain draftee
  • Durdin showed signs that he will make it as a small forward
  • Logan is continuing his rebound, looked solid, and will keep getting better IMO
  • I actually thought Brodie showed something for his first game in many years, and only 46% game-time. I just didnt like the way he was used.
  • Butters was Butters, and tried his best
  • Looked like WC were going to win by 5 goals, but Port tried hard to get up and win, which was a tick
  • I thought Burgoyne showed some good signs in the middle
  • Bizarrely, I thought it a positive that we missed an easy 5 or 6 goals we should have easily got, yet only lost by 2 points!
  • We should have won that game easily even while carrying a substantial amount of sub-AFL players!

Were there negatives? Hell yeah! Heaps! I am not going to follow the masses here and bag every fill-in, depth-player used on the day. They are what they are. Fact is, we SHOULD have won the game despite playing them, so the blame falls on the experienced players. That is where the team failure lies.

I suppose it is another positive that Carr voiced this. Lets see if he can do something about it

100% spot on

Well said! How low are some of the standards expected from a Port Adelaide footballer from some of the posters on here. Frightening.

Calls that this trade could cost the club for years are way over the top. So many clubs burn first round picks on dud players and it doesn't force them into the doldrums.
Its not just the first round pick, its the 6 years at a million dollars a pop for a player GC didnt even want (plus we took Ratkins just to ease their salary cap pressures coz why not 🤣🤣🤣)

He's a an elite kick and nothing else. 125 games would tell us that we can't expect any of his other 'attributes' to change. Up to Josh to try and use him where we can exploit his 1 elite attribute...

Jack has not yet played 10 games for Port. Both years he has had to learn a new game style.

Sunday was a disappointing performance but I am still confident he will come good.
Doesnt matter what game style you are trying to learn, if you deliberately avoid body contact like Lukosious did on more than one occasion on Sunday, then i am highly dubious he will come good.

Those not willing to give him more than a couple games in a row seem to forget that many players even with experience struggle early on at their new clubs. Look at Houston's disastrous season last year, he is only just finding his groove now and he played all but a couple games last year.

And closer to home i remember both Jay Schulz and Byron pickett being poor early for us before clicking into gear. Byron Picketts first 7 games, he averaged 8 touches and kicked 2 goals. He then played his former team in round 8, kicked 3 and away he went, booting 41 goals from the last 18 games and averaging 14 possessions. Schulz fairly similar, poor early and then kicked 7 round 13 of 2010 and the rest of this season was great.

Charlie Dixon's second season was much better than his first.

I didn't think Ryder lived up to the hype in his first year in 2015, all australian in 2017.

I fear you are right

It sends all the wrong messages to players. Come to PA, get paid heaps & you can choose when you want to compete in a contest or worse still hang around waiting for easy ball to fall your way. As a bonus you'll be picked every week irrespective. Zak is a serious footballer but he's not playing for a serious football club. Why wouldn't he leave? Carr has so much work to do but from his press conferences its clear he sees what's happening & that's a good start.
