Since Frawley is a FA, nothing. 600k a year over 4 years would be ideal. AA FB don't grow on trees.

If our first round pick is in the 13-18 zone, I'd give that to the Dees for Watts + a swap of second round picks. If it's not, perhaps our second rounder and a player like Astbury or Helbig.
No matter how crap he has been, he wasn't pick one for no reason. Even Tambling cost the Crows their first and third rounder.

Tambling did have one above average year in 2008 and had injury troubles in 09. Watts is just as comparable to Morton who went for pick 88. Really if he continues this year in the same fashion as the last 2 games his value will plummet, the best Melbourne could hope for is a bidding war, but I just can't see clubs risking a first round pick without Watts showing signs.

I wouldn't write him off yet Calc. Played some good footy last year and just has no confidence at the moment. Still plenty of time this year for Watts to get better. Will be interesting to see if Neeld drops him this week. That would be the worst thing for him IMO.

I've only written him off at Melbourne. The culture is toxic and take a lot more then firing schwab (but that's a start)' think at another club could find a new lease on life, and would say that the best fits would be Sydney or Geelong. Richmond would then follow with handful of clubs like the Pies, Hawks, North and Freo.

The biggest mistake was when Neeld became coach and he came in and publicly abused Watts. Kid has not wanted to play for him since then and all Neeld has done since then is throw him to the media and supporter wolves continually. Has no man management skills Neeld and its why he won't lead Melbourne out of their black hole. Compare that to Dimma who when he first walked in went straight to lids told him we need him and he should resign then asked for a hug, this comes out two years later when Deledio signs a 5 year deal to stay at the club for life because he loves Dimma.

Fair points. Ox and Dr Turf and Scott Lucas were talking about it on radio tonight.

I'd rather rather Jack Osbourne, than Jack Watts. Jack Watts is a cheat of a player.

I feel sorry for both Trengrove and Grimes... made captain because the whole club lacks leadership. Its like a child being born by a junkie. What hope have they got. Watts is different... he leaves it to others to take responsibility.

Then the trade's back on!:D:thumbsu:

....and I hereby reinstate the LMFAO @ sante and extend it to everyone who liked his post!:D:thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

Dea and Helbig aren't untouchable. If we traded them we would be luck to receive a pick below 50 for each of them. There's no way in hell we could get Watts or any of those other Dees for them.

If the Dees have a complete re-structure off-field (admin & footy depts), assisted and certified by the AFL, then I'm pretty sure they'll get a priority pick. So be ready for it...

Their drafting hasn't been too bad, their development is absolutely woeful, possibly worse than ours 4-8 years ago. List management also terrible, dumping senior players, then replacing them with duds or highly paid "out of profile" players.

I always thought Schwab needed to be replaced, but just sacking him is not the answer... he needs to be replaced by someone who really knows what they're doing, and can lead the bloody place. They have no leadership on-field because they have none off-field... sounds familiar hey.

Someone on radio this morning suggested Adrian Anderson as a candidate, and as much as it would probably be scoffed at, may not be such a bad choice... if he can demand some bloody respect. I don't really know enough about him to answer that.

Fair enough - thought you were overrating those two. Still think you're overrating Rance but you ain't exactly Robinson Crusoe around here on that score - I agree we're highly inlikely to ever trade him unless he wanted to go back West, but hypothetically if we did I'd be very surprised if any club offered us anything better than a pick in the 20's at the most.

I was also referring to the likes of Frawley not Watts and obviously not direct swaps - picks and probably a third club would also need to be involved.

Dees will no doubt expect a lot for Watts but I wouldn't chuck anything more than third round pick at him at the absolute most. Seriously. He's clearly ****ed in the head now, and therefore a 50/50 proposition at best and ain't worth much more IMO. If he turns it all around then I might reassess, but I'd suggest if he does then Melbourne will have turned things around too and players like him and most of the others on our wish lists will then most likely want to stay. However I find that scenario highly unlikely at this point in time.
Trengove. Would round out our midfield nicely.

Hard to argue with that but Sam Blease would suffice for me. Would be a hell of a lot cheaper and kicks goals too.:thumbsu:

In all seriousness.... cause I really don't know...
What are Jack Watts' key talents and abilities that helped him get to be a #1 draft pick???
I dunno... never saw him as a teenager.... is he playing now as he was at 16 against other boys and is being found out as a man or what?

Doeas he have a big tank, or is he a great contested mark or an elite kick????

I really don't know?
(& I'm not having a veiled shot at the Dee's for picking him up at one either.... plenty agreed he deserved it)

In all honesty Roachy8, I don't know a huge deal about him. The few good things I've heard are that he has a good work rate, is relatively mobile for a big player (196cm and 91kg) and can read the ball/play quite well - probably why he had some success last year when moved into a loose defender position last year.

He does seem to have some strings to his bow and maybe a change of scenery would be best given he has been much maligned during his time at Melbourne. We've had a decent record of improving players with unfulfilled potential in recent years and with Choco helping the younger players, maybe we can improve his deficiencies of being considered soft and lacking determination/hardness despite his size and skills.

I don't really feel much sympathy for Melbourne and their current plight given I think they got off lightly for the whole tanking issue but I do feel a bit sorry for the kid. He's definitely low on confidence and can't imagine he feels too flash being one of the poster boys for their media storm.

Is there really much of a history of high draft picks (top 10) who failed at their first club, got traded, and then turned it around at their second?

Tambling didn't.
Polak Didn't.
Danny Meyer, Farren Ray, JON, Josh Fraser, Brennan, Bradley - if you haven't shown something in your first 3-4 years, chances are you haven't got it at all. West Coast are fond of giving the ex-WA boys a second chance when they get home (Morton's, Jon etc) - but not with much success.

Schulz is probably the best of those who have shown significant improvement (and he was pick 12) - but his was probably a case of finally getting games at Port at his preferred position (FF) after being frozen out at Richmond by Richo and Riewoldt.

What chance Watts? Not much, I'd say. You can't point to any game where he has shown anything significant as an above-average player at best.

We actually looked into Grimes last year but obviously nothing game out of it. Correct me if this isn't correct but I was told he's coming out of contract this season, he won't be a free agent but it does give us an upper hand if we do try and bring him in.

Obviously we've got his brother at the club and he's also good mates with Cotchin, the two of them played for the Northern Knights together so you'd expect he'd have some interest in coming to the club although its never easy bringing in another teams captain.
Just re-signed, looks like we won't be going back for him this year.
