Newnes seemed to have some potential a few years back and just seemed to fall off a cliff. Maybe he can break out at a new club. Could be a bargain for Carlton.
I don't think he fell off a cliff, they just made him a defensive forward.

He was only used as a defensive forward for 4 out of the last 5 games this season - he was moved to half back after Coffield went off injured against Freo. The rest he played on the wing.

Yeah, a few here are giving the wrong impression. He's no star, but he's no spud either. Solid, professional, durable, holds his own, no surprises. Certainly worth a spot on most AFL lists.

Jones is currently a better footballer than Newnes, but I’d rather have Newnes for free than trade a 2nd and 3rd for Jones. Especially considering the position the Saints are in.

He's a DFA and is coming in as depth. Bit of an indictment on your club that he was your leadership group and had a 2 year contract in front of him.

Newnes wasnt dropped under Ratten. He had gastro and ended up losing 5kg from it.
