I'm most impressed with how good he looks as an outside runner, something he really struggled with in his first seasons here. 14.9 uncontested touches a game, good for second in the team behind Gaff.

He's great at providing a handball outlet and he never stops making leads, especially into the defensive half when we're struggling to get the ball out. Perhaps his traineeship on the HFF did him some good?

He's the total package now. Wins contested ball and uncontested ball, he's a neat kick, defensively responsible and can kick a goal.

Seriously impressed by him and happy to admit that I was totally wrong.

How would his form this year compare to his best year at Brisbane?

I have no idea, never heard of him until he came to us.
More of a complete player here imo

I believe his time out of the centre early in his WCE career has actually helped his game.

i Want to know what happened to shuey. I thought when our other midfielders progressed and matured he would rise with them. He flies with nic nat in the team and he is full of heart, but i feel like lately he has been a turn over machine or am i just seeing things wrong.
It’s this ongoing issue where we can’t seem to get a large number of mids all playing well at the same time. Seems like when one improves, another goes backwards. Not sure why

To be fair, Shuey cops the tag every week which to me signifies him as our most damaging player. I think it was the Brisbane game they tagged Yeo in the first half and Shuey was dominant. The tag quickly changed to Shuey for the second half.

It's called a tag.
Him and Yeo predominantly get it.
Expect Boots to be a tad more free next game, while Yeo cops a tagger.

This is where you want to be as a midfield group.

Shuey was getting tagged years ago but was having more impact than he has had this year.

Just an observation is all. It would be great to have Shuey, Redden, Yeo and Sheed all play their best footy at the same time over the next two matches

To me from the last few games it seems Shuey is trying too hard to carry the team as one of the leaders. I don't know if its some sort of Mitchell influence or what but he needs to tone it down a touch. He is still going ok in most areas of the game but getting caught holding the ball trying to shake off 4 guys every contest isn't going to help us.

Him and a few others just need to handball it off sooner. Melbourne in Friday night would handball cleanly to a teammate nearby within a fraction of a second of receiving it.

We don’t seem to do that - we don’t have the same numbers at the contest and it forces players to either bang it on the boot (luckily it worked last night) or try to burst away/break through tackles.

The latter ploy would work if we had 5 dangerfields in our team, but it’s just not that viable.

It actually worked for Shuey against Brisbane but there was less pressure, and the bodies were less developed.

Played a great game ...yeo and redden our Brisbane recruit (sorry lions)

Losing gaff was huge

But ...

Sheed has steppped up ...close to 30 touches a game in last three games
Redden has elevated his game
Yeo has lifted
Masten too....
