We traded pick 17 in possibly one of the worst drafts in recent history for this bloke who's just came 2nd in our bnf in a premiership year. the pick ended up at NM (Ben McKay) and the only players of note taken after the pick (in my opinion) were Dunkley (wanted to stay in Melbourne for family reasons), Cole (who we got anyway), Phillips and Menangola. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but holy hell this was a good bit of business

It was the Priddis retirement that brought out the best in Redden, because he was finally able to play his natural game in his natural position, full time.

HFF in our team has always been a position where our mids have been forced to play with little to no results. Remember the years they tried to play Masten there?

You are right but Masten is a poor example. One of his best ever seasons is when he played on the HFF.
Still don’t buy this idea that Redden played a hugely different a role/position this year compared to previous years.
Sure, Priddis left, but Yeo also played full time on-ball which he had never previously done over a long period of time.
I think he was given slightly less of a defensive role this year as Hutchings became the preferred tagger. But I think it’s a bit much to say he played HFF until 2018

Really doesn’t have a natural place in the side with Kelly in the middle now. When X O’Neill is fit he should take that spot and add some run.

Yeah he's redundant now. Can't play outside with his lack of pace, especially with shortened quarters. Too similar to Sheed in speed to play midfield. One or the other this year
Was never the most talented guy but tried his damn hardest and we wouldn't have won the premiership without him in 2018, but yeah along with JK and Hurn is starting to look like he's at the end of his career. They should always be respected, but we need to start looking at who the replacements are going to be damn soon as it looks like this group may have run its course and needs a refresh/pruning just like we needed at the end of 2017. Pity we have no draft picks and damn average kids for the most part, which is making me feel when we drop off it might be for a bit longer this time.

I can't say I have ever rated Redden. I couldn't understand why we recruited him in the first place. If I remember correctly he had a very good second half of 2018 but that was about it. Unless he is tagging, like Hutchings, there is no place for him in the side.
On another issue, why are we such a physically weak side? I have been saying it for years that we can't hold a tackle and now it looks like we barely enter the weights room.
I think the Eagles off-field need a shake up in their sports science department. Too many people have been there for too long.
