Geez I thought we were over the Coniglio pining on this board. Let it go, he's looking forward to winning the next 10 premierships at GWS.

Well, he only signed a 2 year contract extension until 2019, so he might not plan on staying for the long term.

It's the Brisbane effect, any player that's not completely hopeless looks great playing in that team.... And in some cases i.e. Redden even a completely hopeless player looks decent.

Delist, he adds nothing. Another listclogger that is given every chance, for increasingly diminished returns cf. jetta.

You don't just back out of an extension you signed six months ago, plus with how successful 2015 was I doubt we would've had any bargaining power.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game!

I've been a defender of Redden but he stunk it up on the weekend. His 2011 to 2015 form was quite good, regularly getting 25 to 30 possession games. What's changed? What role was he playing at Brisbane to get those numbers? He just can't seem to find his feet at West Coast.

He has gone from playing full time on-ball to a strange HFF/wing role (ie no mans land). He was horrible last week but he really isnt getting a chance. He isnt a flanker, he never was. Playing him out of position is like playing a key forward in the ruck - of course he isnt impressing.

Obviously he needs to earn his chance in the middle so its abit of a chicken and egg situation. When Priddis and Mitchell are gone, Redden might come in handy (and could be quite important) - if he still on our list.

He's not alone. Even the so called expert commentators haven't picked up on some of the midfield changes this season. You don't think Priddis couldn't dive in and get first hands and 30 possessions at the drop of hat or that Masten just suddenly grew a little more inside balls. A number of players are being asked to play different roles and many are learning that switching spots and tasks isn't always easy.
It's just the average Joe can't tell the difference between positioning a few metres off, attacking or defensive sides of opponents, first at ball license or 2nd zone spill instructions etc. The question really is, how long will it take for coach to work out who is capable of different roles and who simply isn't? There are different coaching philosophies. Some lean towards you do what you excel at and as long as everyone else does the same I'll develop a plan and structure to maximise everyone's best. Others lean more towards all round abilities and in theory a more flexible approach. In the end, like all things it's about finding the right balance of both. Coach has made it clear he wants more midfield flexibility, but that also means having great coaching staff ability to teach unnatural roles and instincts to those having to do the learning.

I hate this. People always claim a player looks better than they are because they played in a great team or that they look great because they played in a poor team.

Just can't win

He was a good player, for whatever reason he is now a poor one

Just for the record Redden has played 153 games. (Compare with Schoey 157, Shuey 143, NN 146) So he is hardly in the category of an up and comer. He should be at his peak. If he is not, then maybe he just doesnt have it.

Surely no-one is clamoring for a Redden return? Let's see him get 40 in the WAFL for a month and then try him out.

I signed up for a big-bodied accumulator and what we've got is a skinny imitation of a NEAFL player. If he's not racking them up and tackling like crazy, he has zero positive attributes.

I'm sick of reading this shit. He (insert name of any one of half a dozen players) isn't playing well cos he is being played out of position. Apparently we have a heap of midfielders and no hffs. Load of wank, players should be able to adapt and play a role, players in other teams seem to manage it. Back in the day all midfielders used to change in the forward line when rested and if they couldn't do it they were moved on. If the poor snowflake can only play one position he can find a new job. FFS it's not under 10s where parents complain because useless little Johnny only gets to play in a pocket.

Played a mindless follower role at Brissie and did well. We've been trying to teach him running patterns and structures; his game has fallen apart.

Maybe one day we'll be thankful for developing his outside abilities just a bit. Starts with building confidence in the WAFL again.

let him dominate wafl for a good month before getting him back in. Next step is drop priddis an let sheed and hutch have first go as 2nd and 3rd on ballers. Redden to only be given a chance if one of them can't cement their spot.

I prefer the notion that we never let him back in and delist him at seasons end.
