News Jack Riewoldt thinks our game plan has backfired...

He was saying what all the fans and wider AFL community were thinking but I can see the club's wish to try and stamp out any dissension in the ranks. The only way to turn things around is to stay united and fight it out. Can't afford to fracture and start pointing any fingers.

What is this obsession with the media to bash jack at any opportunity? Seriously getting tiresome
Listening to Hudson on SEN and he starts off with "could we see Jack at another club next year" - and he's one of the better ones!

No probs, my last post was a bit smartarsery, sorry couldn't help it. Earlier ones were just to clear a misunderstanding, nothing more.:thumbsu:

Livonski, I've always found that you speak sense on here so not having a go, just curious about your answer.
Are you really happy with the game plan being rolled out this year? There was a definite intent over the summer to 'slow us down'. Jacks right, we went one way and the rest of the comp went the other.

I'm not at all happy with the way we are playing.
But I do agree that our game had to be tweaked from last year when the run and gun let us down often. And when it mattered.
Eg,Against Geelong last year we were 5 up and then ran out of gas in the 3rd qtr same in many others, and obviously in the final.
The problem this year is that the attacking side of a few of our key ball movers has gone missing. Deledio missing was huge, Rance the same. The run and link of Grigg has gone, Cotchins run has gone, Ellis had one good attacking game, Conca and Houli have been up and down. A lot of this can be turned around but it's going to take a spark to reignite, and we are just in a rut atm and can't find a way. But it's not the game plan that has caused this. It sticks out when Dusty takes possession and takes the game on, because it isn't happening generally.
I have a lot of sympathy for Jack as his effectiveness has been killed by the ball movement problems up the ground. All the forwards for that matter, TV, Griffo and Lloyd have been starved of 1v1 opportunities.
I'm confident that we can turn it around, hopefully starting today, and when we do you'll see a chorus on here saying Hardwicks woken up and changed the game plan back. Not true, it'll be because our ball carriers have started taking risks again and attacking at the appropriate time, just not 100% like last year.
Sorry for the ramble. And I didn't even start on contested possession differences going backwards.
Cheers

i wouldn't say Melbourne's list is far inferior to ours. Infact its almost if not par.
Frawly, Jones, Vince, Cross, Tyson, Salem, Jamar, Viney, Dawes...
Combine that with This list is being one of the best coaches of the last 30 years.

Melbourne got smashed by 100 points by weste coast in round 2 ....

They've come a long way since then

Richmond have enough talent

I like hardwick ...I'm not a Richmond fan per say but many mates are. He reminds me a lot of Mark Harvey ex freo coach ....top bloke, popular with players....says everything right ....but can he coach .....tactics wise yes ...

Just not sure

A good coach would have said at the presses after jack

"Jacks jack ....some of what he said maybe has some truth to it, just not sure really .....give me time, the fact is we ae 2-6 so what was jack supposed to really say - look we are all partly to blame for our 2-6 record"

ISSUE OVER....DONE AND DUSTED

the fact hardwick made an issue of it says to me he isn't flexible in his thinking

The media circus is game of cat n mouse .....Sheddy was master of deflecting away difficult situations ...using distraction of other issues I the game .....mick Malthouse too

Hardwick could learn from that....he could have made jacks comments go away very weekly ...instead he threw peotrol on it

Actually we have been getting better. This year we have stalled, much like your club did but every year during Hardwicks coaching we have increased our wins and made a failed finals campaign. So whats your point or are you just going to throw statements with zero thought ?

Like I said I think hardwick is a lot like mark Harvey was at freo

Top bloke, liked by everyone , good developer of talent ....says everything right ....but

Just sure he's going to take you anywhere .......we've seen what Ross Lyon did with freo ....same list same players essentially

IMHO I think what we have done poorly over the last few years is we have been too fast in our play sometimes which hurts us on the rebound. So I think what they did try to do is when required don't just run and gun, try to move the ball by foot more clinically, BUT that wasn't meant to mean go slow ALL the time or just don't run at ALL. This is what it appears has happened so I don't think he was articulating exactly what we have tried to do. Remember teams try to layer development, but you assume what you have already learnt stays and is used.

And it comes back to the one thing.Lack of leadership on the field. When to pull the trigger,I mean they should take a leaf out of Rance's book,Yes we all have a dig at the Rance moments but credit where credit is due,When he can he takes the opposition on.

Yep agree. Newman, Chaplin, Cotchin, Grigg, Houli etc. Senior guys that haven't done much imo particularly from the back half.

If Melbournes list is almost par to ours we have some major issues.

Watts, you left out Watts. :)

And yes they also have one of the best coaches in the league. I think a lot of clubs are underestimating the Demons based on the fact that no coach up until now has been able to get the best out of the playing group. (Similar to what Hinkley is doing with PA.) Dawes has stepped up massively this season!

I dont doubt that there are coaches who could get more out of us. But to try and find that bloke and to just end up with Hardwicks equal at best would be a massive step backwards. Dont see any of the potential upgrades being dicked around by their club over their contract.

Id rather see the club invest and look at ways to help Hardwick with his weaknesses and hope the performances pick up so that he can go into next season with supporter confidence.

As much as I have doubts about him this year, I dont see a change before the end of next year as being desirable or even entertained by the club.
