Jack Riewoldt?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

He had his one great game against an average west coast side... he is one of those playrs who will only have the same amounts of kicks as goals..... if riewoldt doesn't do much against the dockers i'd be calling for cleave hughs to get another go. When richo finshes i wreckon hughs would be a better foward the riewoldt anyday.... and hughs (if he were playing) wouldn't of been so arragant and thought he could kick 55metres after the siren when the pass was on offer against the saints.
You do realise that the siren signifies the end of the game don't you?

That post is a hall of famer....seriously...well done..:thumbsu:

With his size he should work on his tank over the off season so he can just get to more contests. I would like to see him play an O'keefe type role.
What he does is is class we just need more of it.

?????? You mean being taller than Nick? I think maybe we have set our expectations of him too low, after all he has turned 19 now.

Jack is 192cm and 86kg
Nick is 196cm and 95kg

Figures from footywire.

I think Jack is just a touch to small to play the key forward slot.
Or I wouldnt want that to be the only string to his bow anyway.

Bradshaw is 190cm, Pavlich 191cm and Brereton was only 186cm. His size doesn't worry me too much.

Jack's biggest problem is his speed, or lack of. He very rarley takes a grab 2-5m in front of his man, the defender is always right on his heals. Luckily he takes the ball first time otherwise he would be in the middle of struggletown. Also he is only 19/20 and has the kind of build that looks like he should be able to put on weight pretty easily unlike Polo, Edwards, McGuane types

It is pretty clear he hasn't really been doing a lot and I thought he was close to our worst against Adelaide. He then followed it up with a pretty poor performance on the weekend not sure if he kicked a goal.

He leads up and takes marks then too often has no idea what to do and backtracks and kicks backwards, having said that he did on the weekend kick to Richo from wing resulting in a goal but he doesnt do it often enough. He is similar to Joel Bowden in they are both very smart players that almost try to be to smart sometimes.

Something you must love is if he knows he can't take the mark as a forward he is more than happy to fist it and give our smalls a chance to get a hold of it.

Keep him in the side but for him to work well as many have said we need Cleve back too so it isnt just him when Cho is on the wing.

I like Jack and how he goes about it.
One question do you think that he as good or better than his cousin at the same time's of their football life?
I think he's better. But still has a lot to learn though. Nick was thrown to the sharks and he has survived and in my opinion has done him a load of good.
As this year he seems to have found a little bit of the mongrel that he needed.

LMAOOOOO! :D

I am reading that right arent I? That you think Jack is better than Nick was in his second season?

No bloody way. Not ever.

Jack is behind where Nick was in his second year for sure.

Fair point. Surprising that.

I guess I just see him as a third forward option.

If you read it right you will notice I was praising Nick. I don't know how you think that I was saying that Jack is better. I asked did you think he could compaired to Nick at the same time of their carree's.

bigpapagman And i don't see how I ruin this Thead. If anything I have opened up up more.

You only mentioned Jack before you asked the question who is better at the same stage and said "I think he's better." To me that read a Jack, not Nick. Simple mistake. Thank god you've cleared that up and I dont think you need to go to a mental asylum any more. ;)

So with that context now corrected I think there is are two big reasons Nick was better at that stage and turned out better from being thrown to the sharks.
Nick had a bigger and more athletic body and more natural talent than Jack it this stage. I reckon it's as simple as that.

but is always involved in big clutch plays I've noticed, may not get many touches but he impacts on the game nearly everytime he doe get it.

Took a big strong mark under pressure then passed it to richo he got a 50 and kicked the sealer.

I've been watching jack closely the past month, don't under estimate the impact he has on our side, already a very important ingredient :thumbsu:

He has that quality that so many of our players havent. Its called aniticipation.
Punts on it and if it doesnt come off, big deal, no big drama, but when it does, as you say, clutch play comes off and sinks the opposition. i.e. might not win awards and all that shit, but will win us games when they have to be won with a clutch play. ;)

At this stage of his career, Jack has done all there needs to do at VFL level. He's a class above VFL. No point him playing there.
At the moment, he is learning more about the caper by getting 8 touches at AFL level than what he would by getting 20 at VFL level. Learning how to play on the good defenders, learning what's like to play 2nd fiddle and learning what it's like to bring other players into the game. He is doing all that and learning it all at the same time.

Where I see the Richmond forward line going now is into a multiple-option forward line. Not just the "kick it to Richo" play like Freo have and Hawthorn have. We will have Hughes, Morton, Riewoldt who in my eyes will share the load and maybe chuck a new guy in there and we have a team forwardline, not a one man show. Not that I have anything against Richo:D:thumbsu:
