Dangerfield, Selwood, Hawkins, Jenkins, Steven, Taylor Ablett, Tuohy, Henderson all 30+ - then you got Blicavs, Duncan & Rohan at 29 - Menegola and Dalhaus at 28 - all next year

The Great Grandpa Cats will be using a zimmer frame to keep there window open
Also got one of the strongest draft hands at the next two drafts to add to existing youth of Parfitt, Ratugolea, Clark, Constable, Narkle, Miers, Henry etc. What's the purpose of sitting at the arse end of the ladder for years on end when clubs that do so have little to nothing to show for it anyway?

Bargain.

Cats has done as well as expected after losing Kelly.

St Kilda big losers between this and Hill deal.

Geelong just took advantage of a difficult situation, St Kilda had to grant him his wish to move back home to Geelong so Geelong knew they could lowball us with an offer that was well below his actual value. They may have got a bargain but they've lost respect in the way they took advantage of the situation.

We also have - Stewart, Miers, Henry, Bews, O'Connor, Ratugolea, Kreuger, Constable, Fogarty, Narkle, Parfitt, Cockatoo (if he can get fit, will be a gun), Atkins and a future superstar in Jordan Clark. That's 14 players, all capable of being best 22, with only Stewart being over 25 and the rest being around 19-24. That's before we use our draft hand of 14, 17, 24, 36, West Coast Future 1st, Geelong Future 1st, Geelong Future 2nd, GC Future 3rd, Geelong Future 3rd

...I think we'll be fine, but thanks for your concern :)

Ridiculous trade. The guy is a gun. I bet he'll be all smiles and fit as he starts in the centre square in round 1.

But nobody will touch it because "mental health". Grrr.
The trade pick reflects the salary that he is on and was explained on the radio
#58 - saints pay X amount of the salary for next year
#36 - Saints pay XXX amount of the salary

I get that salary and trade value are two variables that can be set off against eachother - what I think is nuts is that either of those draft picks would be considered fair value for Jack Steven. He's a star.

From what they were saying steven if he stayed at the saints may not have continued beyond next year and another year like 2019 would not have suited anybody's needs.

Think it was a case of damage control with the salary being the problem for the saints and accepting that he was never going to be a long term option for the saints.

It'll all look reasonable if he battles through next year, plays 5 games and retires.

It will be a f*&^#$% farce if he plays 20 games, has 500 disposals, goes top 5 in Cats B&F, happy as Larry.

wont be laying the boots in here. saints fans are entitled to be disappointed. stuck in an impossible position so soon after frawley.

dont expect cats fans to show any humility next year if he fires. wont take long b4 they start shouting from the rooftops how theyve made st kilda look like fools.
Shoe on the other foot if he doesn't play a game

Yeh...like oooh you wasted pick 58 is going to be such an insult....

Players get taken in the draft every year thereabouts who go nowhere. Ge7ting bust is hardly a shock with a pick that late.

ie Choosing a year randomly. 2009, a decade a go and so amply time for players to have had a career, or not.

Whilst we're all aware Geelong is taking a gamble with Steven, to echo what others have said: it just looks like they're risking absolutely nothing in doing so. If this were any other year, Steven would have comfortably been worth a first rounder, Pick 58 + making the Saints pay some of his salary is a farce - Saints gave up more for Dan Butler! Geelong taking advantage of Jack's situation is pretty low imo, especially after the whole Kelly situation over the last two years.

I guess when you're trying to compete each year it's hard to get low draft picks and an abundance of kids into your best 22.

BTW what have you guys been doing over the last 8 years?

This is exactly why the Saints and Crows didn't get a good deal. We have so many players in the Steven/Jenkins age bracket that it makes no sense to bring more in unless the deal is heavily in our favour. This is a time when Geleong are concentrating on developing the next generation of players and making sure the next generation have the right people to guide them.

Jenkins and Steven probably aren't the guys to do that and consequently, we're not paying much for them.
