Richo through him forward last week which didnt necessarily break the tag but Stuv was able to snag a couple of goals. If he can do that each week it will make it easier for him.

Yep i think he needs to rotate him in a number of different roles when this happens. Start him maybe on the wing for a few bounces, across the half back line and let him charge in, also across the half forward line etc.

Can't just leave him in the guts and hope he breaks it, because right now unfortunately the taggers are getting the better of him.

Yes all of sudden he has those weakenesses. Some of us are a hard lot on here. Play exclusively HF. What are we trying to do? Lose more games. He has a little on his plate at the moment and probably isnt as fit as he has been. Jack is one player that needs to be close to 100% to play at his best because speed is his huge weapon. He is a pure mid who can go forward. That is his and the sides best positions for him.

Well that explains it a bit I guess...just looks off his peak.

Well it's an easy get for opposition coaches now to tag Jack, and makes him a much less effective player. I prefer he kicks a couple of goals in a forward line that can't seem to kick enough goals, than run around second to the ball behind a tagger.

If jack isn't in there then ross gets tagged. Potentiallly jack is still our best mid and best match winner. He needs to play mainly as our main mid

Well if he can drag the tagger in the forward line like last week and snag a few goals on him that would be a win. i'd happily take Jack getting 6 or so disposals less if he can jag a couple of goals by doing what he done last week.

My point is if he played only as a HF the tagger wouldn't be on him. He would be on Ross. Of course Jack plays mainly in the middle of the ground.

I don't think anyone is saying play him exclusively as a HF. More so that if he is getting tagged out of a game, then rotate him across the HF/Swing/FP to mix it up a bit instead of him having hardly any impact.

Well the other poster did and that is why I said what I said. And its not like he isn't having any impact in the middle every week. He should play 60% in the middle and 20% elsewhere if he is being heavily tagged.

I feel like two unsung factors impacting on Steven is the absence of Hickey and Armo.

From memory Hickey and Steven were pretty high in the ruck-rover combination last year. Armo was also the type of player that would go out of his way to screen for teammates where as Ross is more see ball get ball (not bagging him). That's just my observation though I haven't looked for stats to back me up :P

It could be he's carrying injury, Steven has been tagged in the past but it's seems to be affecting his output more this season.id say it's likely a combination of the missing synergy he had with Hickey and Armo and injury. Surely it hasn't taken rival clubs 4 years to work out putting time into him will make it hard for us?

It's not just this year. Jack's form dropped right off in the last 5 games last year (hence him dropping right out of AA contention as a result), possibly because teams started to tag more again right around that time, or maybe it was just him.

So it's getting closer to 12 months since he was really killing it on a consistent basis and it's a fair part of the reason we haven't taken that next step up this year IMO.

I saw someone describe him as "fat" recently and unfortunately I wasn't really able to argue with that, as he has been looking bigger and doesn't seem to be breaking the lines like he used to with his run.

Teams just sit on him now, Sydney players were bumping and harassing him even when he didn't have the ball and put him completely off his game. Pretty much everyone has a player harass him now and it works. Until he breaks a tag he will keep getting it. He was unlucky last week to not get a few frees when they tagged him in the first half, that inbred looking guy kept holding his arm the whole time.

People talked about Selwood the same way before Dangerfield Joined the Cats.

Punctured lung doesn't help as well
I'm sure old Jeansy would have said to Jack "you have two lungs..just use one and breathe twice as fast!..now get out there and beat your opponent or you will be in the twos next week!!"
