Wonder why?

Yeah nah- we needed Carlise more than Jack when Battle went down, and if we start tinkering with winning teams, then it disrupts the flow. I would like to hear Jack come out and officially say "I'm with the Saints next year" or similar- what a great boost it would be.

Why should he say that. Has a contract. The idea is to pick your best side. Once fit he walks in.

Love him and always have, but part of me wants him to go. He can have some success that he deserves at the cats and we can hopefully keep the build going with another first round pick.

We've had to learn to play without him this year, which hasn't gone well for us on the ladder, but it's probably a big reason for Gresh growing as much as he has.

So based on rumours you apply higher standards to Steven. Of course there are no rumours about Carlisle or Hannaberry!!!

I’m not commenting from a position of fact, merely saying what the club should do assuming that scenario is correct. They would know more than I would about the situation.

But what if he helped us win this year anyway? It’s not like the player dropped will have an effected career because of a game or two

Because I don't like the idea of playing a guy who has a foot or two out the door. I love the guy and I hope he stays, but if his manager is working on getting him to Geelong then I'm fine if he doesn't play in the seniors again. I realise it's a harsh stance for a guy who's been the backbone of the team for so long, but if he wants out, that's how I feel.

And like I said, I don't know anything. There's a big "if" factor. I'm just commenting on a hypothetical.

Seems like a pretty emotional response to me, what does keeping him out of the team achieve other than keeping it from being as good as it can be? Some real cutting off your nose to spite your face type stuff

i think there may be some movement with us geelong and freo working out a deal ... but honestly if Geelong need to start thinking of players in the 20 year old bracket not bringing in another 30 yearold

I've obviously missed it but when did Jack Steven actually come out and say:

1-I want to leave St.Kilda

2-I want to go to Geelong.

There's been a lot of noise in the media which no doubt has been fueled by his health issues but where did this all start?

Our best chance of playing finals is with jack in the side. And secondly where has jack or his manager said he wants out. Until that happens he is entitled to play like everyone else. Even he says he wants out I would play him. The higher we finish the more hope of getting better players from other clubs

It's like a snowball rolling down the hill and getting bigger and bigger.

IMO....it's all just conjecture.

Until Jack or his manager announce publicly that he wants out....for me...it's just conjecture.

I took great interest last night in her comments re our coaching prospects.

My word....things have changed dramatically from her trumpeting last Mon night that "the St.Kilda board is split on chasing RTB for the job" to "Brett Ratten is looking pretty good atm"

Where was that reported or did you ask or just plain make it up cause it suits?

Of course I haven't forgotten, it's just a gut feeling. The change could help him, and the extra pick and cap space could help the team.

That being said we're all just spitballing here, my personal thoughts aren't going to have an effect on his or the teams decision.

But the media are pushing the strong " go home factor ". Even though going home is about a 90minute drive

I'm sick of saints' greats finishing their careers at other clubs. Keep Jack and keep adding. In any event, he's not worth anywhere near what he was last year. Surely he sees the potential of this group, new coach etc. Stay Jack and deliver the Holy Grail and become a true legend. You can do it. You know it makes sense*.

I'm sure we'll get something decent for him, I understand if he goes, but first I hope we try and offer him a relaxed program that lets him get home more often than he would normally. He's been a fantastic player for us, he would go down as one of the great one club sainters if he sticks it out for another five years or so at the club. He could easily finish his career in the forward pocket still having a significant impact on games.

Ideal outcome, Golden Jazzhands. Could be the ideal solution for all. I guess it all depends on what we get through FA and trade this year. I'd want decent compensation for losing him.

I'm thoroughly sick of seeing St.Kilda champions finish their careers elsewhere. Stuv has plenty left to offer, especially if he overcomes his current issues.
