In short, Jack Steven isn’t as good as those champions in my opinion. In fact if he in his prime played in that team - I doubt he wins a BnF. But we are probably a premiership team.

Plus I think there is real value in what is out in the market. Hypothetically if i said we lost Jack Steven and whatever currency we got for him and maybe a second rounder from us but you landed Brad Hill and Ben King with the returns and then signed Tomlinson and Goldstein/Ryder as free agents. Would we not be a much better side?

That’s why I want to see what’s on the table.
Of course we would be s better side if we got king and hill but we are getting hill at the max for Steven so that doesn’t make us a better side. As for those rucks well they will play seconds baring injury so that doesn’t help us. Tomlinson doesn’t really help at all.

Anyway the best result for all is Steven wants to stay because that would suggest he thinks he is mentally right.

The very interesting thing will be if Kelly stays..

There is no way known Geelong can afford Steven in the salary cap.

That's how we'll get their first. By paying part of his salary.

If Kelly does leave - see Birdman's previous posts as to how it works.

We can live in fantasy land that we'll be getting anything more.

But - an off season netting Hill, King & Hill does it for me. Added 'new recruits' in King and Bytel.

We have played the whole year basically without Stuv, so next year won't seem that different when he leaves.

I don’t know how many times I can say this but king won’t be allowed to leave the Gold Coast at the end of the year. That is the last thing that will happen. This sounds like kelly last year and whoever the year before. We ended up with jack.

I really don't want the broken down Stephen Hill. One is enough, we could have more money tied up in players unlikely to play senior footy in the league with Hanners and him. I'm guessing he'll want good money as well, that will take cap space for elite players up.

I hope so, we are putting romance ahead of logic with him.

He is a waste of a spot. Surely we aren’t a retirement home

Fact? Or opinion? I haven't heard any AFL official come out and say this.

A recent precedent was Tom Boyd leaving GWS after 1 season...traded out no problems.

Firstly and not targeted solely at you, But I’m not sure why people are saying Jack has so little value on the market but on the same hand state his is our best player and we need him.

He is under contract therefor we deem the price. If he is our best player then it’s a premium price which is what Kelly will get if he goes.

Secondly, I said our list would be better with the addition of a Goldstein/Ryder. Which is impossible to argue otherwise considering we are talking Longer and Pierce.
Tomlinson is a good old fashioned utility. He will replace Brown on the list which again is another huge upgrade.

If jack leaves I want the freo pick Geelong gets for Kelly. Which means it’s a top 10 pick. We then shop that pick and I am going straight to Ben King. If he wants to leave it will only be to us. He isn’t a 2 first rounder pick player yet in his career.

Brad Hill will go for a mid to late first if he decides to leave. That’s the pick we need to find currency for.

The afl should have stopped that. They will stop king. We will just think it’s the Gold Coast saying no.

I think paying his part salary will be our best bargaining chip. If we were to pay 3 quarters of his salary Geelong could pay him on a base salary so would be getting a top line player on a youth wage and keep their cap in tact.

I think the AFL wanted to get Ryan Griffen there so let it slide. GC has player retention issues and I can imagine they will try their best to lock him into his contract too.

So the afl stops him and then he nominates us next year whilst out of contract. He has the second year blues being a beanstalk tall and we give them pick 10 when we had pick 8 this year let’s say?

He can still potentially be our best player but not get a great pick for him because it’s gone from best player to potential. He has also nearly missed a whole year of footy with mental issues. That means his value is no where near a top 10 player. Beams also hasn’t helped by missing some games this year with mental issues. And king won’t be allowed to leave even if we got a top 10 pick. Why would he have lost value. Hill for Steven is about the best we could get As for rucks well I don’t want to improve the list. I want to improve the top 15.

Which is irrelevant considering we are losing Armo Paddy Robbo(most likely) Longer and I would imagine 2 of them would be in our top 10 earners. But the pick puts us in a great position for 12 months of salary

That still won’t get us a top 10 pick. Our best hope is Geelong being knocked out of the finals as soon as possible

Why? They aren't slaves and if both clubs agree, why should they stop it?

Hope the AFL is taken for restraint of trade if GCS and STKFC agree to a deal, got nothing to do with them but everything to do with contract law.

That will also depend on Ben. What if he says I'm out at the end of next year?

Suns will have the option to trade him now or risk less when he's Out of contract.

Or they can say no and hope he changes his mind next year.

Gold Coast won’t agree and will be also told not to agree as we may be as well. People do get worked up. What if Gold Coast try and get max. I’m sureee would be happy with that. Not

That’s ok, you don’t have to worry about that, the club can. Think bigger picture Gringo. If Brad wants to look after his brother, and that’s what it takes to get him here, happy days. And plus side, we might get a couple of half years out of a very good player...

Or get much more if he improves even more and your last paragraph is the main reason it just won’t happen.
