Re: Jake Viney

According to others more knowledgable, in relation to D&T rules, than I on this site, you cannot do this, as the bidding process and FS selections are organised prior to trade week.

As such, once a club has committed to using a given pick on a FS selection, they cannot trade that pick.

This is correct, the FS meeting is conducted (an hour?) prior to the start of trade week.
Clubs nominate who they will take as father son picks, and all other teams then have the chance to bid on them. If a player is bid on by a team, the father son team must choose between using their next available pick or forfeiting the father son. The pick chosen for the player is then reserved for that player and cannot be traded/used to pick someone else.
Eg. if we finish last and Richmond 2nd last and they nominate Viney with pick 2 we would then have to use our next available at 17. However if we finished 2nd last and Richmond last and they nominated at pick 1 we would have to use pick 1.

Re: Jake Viney

Fellas, I played footy with him for club before he moved to SA and I can say I don't think I've ever seen a guy hit a contest harder. You'd certainly know if you've been tackled by him! Should be a great player in the AFL.

Excellent news.... who would you compare him to in the AFL? Someone like Joel Selwood perhaps?

Selwood seems right, however IIRC he doesn't mind sneaking forward and kicking a goal or two. He's good overhead so he can be played across HF if needed. Basically has no weak areas of his game, reasonably quick, tough an understatement and good skills as well.

Loving the comparisons to players from the dominant team. Its about time we got some luck in the F/S. He should be a nice top up to a maturing side of class in 2012.

Just out of interest: When Jack is available for drafting would that be the same time that stupid west Sydney team gets its pick of the draft, yeah?

Coz I'm thinking that if we finish 7th or so in 2012 then we would only have to give up a pick in the high teens/ early twenties for the lad because of the bunch of freebies WS would get before the draft comes in for the real teams.

Feel free to explain if I am off track on this.

I think you're spot on ROTA but by then our first pick might be in the 20's.

I thought WS were coming in the year after GC.. so if GC are getting 2010s draft crop.. WS would be getting 2011s?, i may be wrong, but hopefully we are in the contender bracket anyway by the time we are drafting Viney
