Re: Jake Viney
This is correct, the FS meeting is conducted (an hour?) prior to the start of trade week.
Clubs nominate who they will take as father son picks, and all other teams then have the chance to bid on them. If a player is bid on by a team, the father son team must choose between using their next available pick or forfeiting the father son. The pick chosen for the player is then reserved for that player and cannot be traded/used to pick someone else.
Eg. if we finish last and Richmond 2nd last and they nominate Viney with pick 2 we would then have to use our next available at 17. However if we finished 2nd last and Richmond last and they nominated at pick 1 we would have to use pick 1.
According to others more knowledgable, in relation to D&T rules, than I on this site, you cannot do this, as the bidding process and FS selections are organised prior to trade week.
As such, once a club has committed to using a given pick on a FS selection, they cannot trade that pick.
