I gained a lot of respect for Watts after his interview post the Melbourne match. He had a hard time dealing with the aftermath of his off-season stupidity. He chose to work hard, get selected through the JLT (no certainty based on his 2018 form) and make the R1 team. Then he played a great, hard game against his old team. Contrast it with other players who get into strife and just hit the booze etc.

Was that Tom Logan in the crowd getting a hug with Jack and a selfie with about 45 seconds to go?

Yep, I think Tommy put the pic up on his Instagram, one with Robbie as well if memory serves.

The person that moved Watts down back is a damn genius. I think he's going to thrive down there. He's cool, precise and reads the play well.

That would be Mark Neeld

That would be Mark Neeld

Neeld played Watts as the +1 in defence who could play loose. Completely different role. And it wasn't because Neeld was some tactical genius or actually wanted him to play there, it was more because Watts wasn't performing up forward, because Neeld had been playing Watts as a forward during the preseason and stated that he was going to play along side Mitch Clark.

It sure as shit wasn't a move based on football nous.

Watts has played every position on the ground so it’s not a new idea to play him down bacm. We brought him here to play up forward though, so it is big decision to move him down back semi-permanently.

You’d expect much like Westhoff he will move around a bit if his confidence is up.

Still very early but I think he will at the least keep his spot in the side, hopefully we see big improvement by the end of the year or in 2020.

I think we'll learn what we need to learn about Watts in the next month. If he doesn't back up with consistent performances after Saturdays stellar effort off the back of the off season troubles then I believe that's going to be the tale of his whole career. 1 good performance every 7-10 games.
It's a big call but the way he played on Saturday, not only with his skills and vision but what he physically put out, could seriously be a major factor of not only making the finals but how deep we go.

A consistent season at this level from Jack would be a huge bonus. Not least because if he's playing well, he brings others into the game.

The off season was such a tough time and it’s great that the club has supported Jack through that. He was awesome on Sat. Looking forward to seeing him have the best year of his career 😎

'Most likely a broken leg': Watts' season in doubt.

PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says the resiliency Jack Watts has shown in resurrecting his career will help the much-maligned defender in his recovery from a potentially season-ending leg injury.
Watts was stretchered off on a medi-cab early in the last quarter of the Power's 16-point win against Carlton at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

Hinkley said Watts could miss the rest of the season if scans reveal he has a broken leg, while the best-case scenario is a high ankle sprain, which will see him likely sidelined for between six and eight weeks.

Very disappointing, plays close to his best game last week after the off season he’s had, then this happens.

Pray for the best case and it isn’t a break.
