He's old enough to know he should be careful doing anything that looks bad in front of a camera.

Drinking and acting up when you're 27 is not abnormal though, for any AFL player. That was my only point.

Let me know when Jack fails a drug test and I'll want his head too. Til then let's stop acting holier than thou.

Let me know when Jack gets in a violent altercation, assaults his girlfriend/wife, drives home drunk from the pub and ploughs through his neighbours bedroom window or skittles a pedestrian.
There are crimes, there are victimless crimes. This doesn’t even fall under either catagory.

Problem for Jack, is that here are his career highlights:

Being pick 1
Failing as a pick 1
Bleaching his hair once
Getting traded because he was a failure with questionable off field issues
Having text messages referencing swimming, ****, and drugs leaked.
Having a video of him snorting off of a girls breasts and motor-boating them leaked.

There are players who never debuted with a better list of highlights than he has.
I saw the Insta account of one young lady he was text messaging and who had suggested some lewd things to Jack. These should be in career highlights if being a footballer made him the beneficiary of such things.

Becoming? Every data point in these Aust figures with the exception of cocaine use in the 20's and 30's is showing a decreasing trend in usage among youth. Peak drug use actually looks to have been when many on here were in their youth...including myself. Good times.

Great get, and fascinating and perhaps counter-intuitive info.

Jack has managed to milk a healthy pay cheque for little return out of two average football clubs for close on a decade. He's then used that cash to travel, meet women and get sloshed. Where do I sign?

The only thing Jack is guilty of is being a good average footballer...

It's just a symptom of fear reporting, just like Paedos, terrorists and assaults.
All are lower.

What is the source for these figures and what do the figures actually represent? Ever used? Regular usage? In the last week? What?

I don’t necessarily disagree with your point. I just don’t see how these graphs, as they are, mean anything specific.

I also find it very hard to believe that meth use decreased in those 15 years. I don’t believe it.

A quick google shows me that the number of people that admit to using meth regularly has increased significantly in recent years, that hospital and emergency services workers support this. Lumping meth and amphetamines together in a set of graphs like this further undermines their value in interpreting harm in my opinion.

For all you know these could be his two only indescretions in a decade long career. Who knows what else he’s done.

I’m old enough to know that Jack Watts is a veritable angel when compared to some players who’ve represented this club over many decades. Oh, if mobile phones were around in the 1970’s and 80’s.

If the players today performed like the teams of the 70's and 80's they can do what they like !

I would rate him well below good and average!
He has been completely useless.

Chronic lack of nang, prescription drug and bath salt stats

Like it or not, rightly or wrongly, Watts is a role model for many young people. At a time when drug use among our youth is becoming a serious health and social issue a role model openly being filmed simulating taking a narcotic is just purely idiotic. The argument "he was doing nothing illegal" is also a pretty flimsy argument here - if, as a society, our standard for what is acceptable behavior is the legality or illegality of an action we are in serious trouble. There are plenty of things that are not illegal but pretty reprehensible regardless. Watts is almost 28 years old; hardly a kid anymore. His actions and decision making was immature and sophomoric at best. He has now come out and apologized for his actions and we should be willing to give him another chance - however he should be judged by his actions not just his words. If he is truly contrite he needs to stop being an dick and start acting like an adult, make amends (doing some volunteer work with drug effected kids or being an ambassador against drugs would be a good start), repay the faith the club and his employer has placed in him and start preparing for life after football because the way he's currently heading that time may come sooner than he thinks.
Like what you say a lot, Tredz. My only issue is that this isn't the first time - although I'm still not sure how the revelations of a few months ago stayed out of the media, but this didn't. But in general, I'm entirely behind you on this front. Well said.

incoming fun police....
non issue. move on
Some people what be absolutely shocked at how many afl players use drugs. Its not just them a big percentage of celebrities and the average punter for that matter.

Doesn't make it right but its not a big surprise that people get caught out now and then. And as others have said jack wasn't even doing drugs not a good look sure but far from a hanging offence.
Joel selwood and great bloke luke hodge were caught putting others lives at risk and didn't get nearly the crap as jack is coping.

"Average clubs"?
If Watts plays about a dozen games this year he'll take over the mantle of current player with most games played who hasn't played in a final from his ex-teammate Lynden Dunn. That's an "achievement" that speaks volumes.

IF the riot act needs to be read it should be done behind closed doors by Keith Thomas, not via this public grandstanding nonsense of Koch.

Koch needs to abide by the "praise in public criticise in private" mantra.
It is possible to have a hard stance on the issues, without targeting a specific person.

Hard stance on:
— behaviour standards in society (which Jack breached)
— condoning illicit drug use (which Jack did)
— social media awareness (which Jack lacks)

I still maintain that the hardest stance to take would have been a club issued 3 game ban.
Without it, anything we (Koch) say is just hot air.

There is no way in hell a 3 game ban would fly. Shane Mumford got a 2 game ban for snorting actual cocaine. Impressively I might add.

Koch gets to get this so arse-backwards.

How often in the last 4 years has he come out with a big angry public statement only for nothing to meaningfully change at the club?

Zero meaningful accountability
