Yeah, Watts has been fine and doing his job IMHO.
He's been a bit disappointing. Not kicking thru the ball a few times trying to steer goals thru and missing easy goals from 30m out especially when kicking is his weapon. He has gone missing in a few of our games after Marshall got injured and we needed him to step up a bit. I reckon he went at about 8 out of 10 in the first 3 games and 6 out of 10 the next 7.

He's very much the icing on the cake, and no more. His contribution in the first quarter on the weekend when the rest of the team was flying, was about what I'd hope for. A couple of clever snaps, and a couple of other involvements further up the field where he helped us get numbers to the contest. We're not seeing much lead up play or channeling through him to deliver the ball into the forward 50. I've been less concerned about his contested ball stuff since half-time of the showdown, just that he doesn't get enough of the footy to help us with our ball movement or ball retention.

As you posted elsewhere, Marshall holds the key to us becoming a significantly better side.

Agreed. He is that third tall/link player. Marshall back on allows him to play that role more freely.

I think he's been what I expected, would I like a bit more from him? sure but it relies on us being fluent into attack which is hard to see happening while we are shit trucking Hinkleyball.

3 goals was a good return from him on Saturday considering our low I50 count.
Agree. If he could have presented a bit more to help us link between centre and forward (e.g. with 3-4 uncontested, lead up marks) that would have been ideal. Also, would have liked him to nullify their intercept marking. He too was outmarked by Frawley in the last quarter, where he got caught behind and failed to spoil.

How often do we kick to the advantage of our forwards though?

He spent 67% time on ground against Hawthorn. This seems to be a typical situation. With Marshall out of the side it leaves us short up forward. Given Jack's pace, mobility and agility I'm surprised he is subbed off so much.

It seems the game is so structured these days the obvious is missed.... It's OK Neade and Sam Gray can cover him.

would be nice if we could have another forward that kicks goals other than Gray and Watts

If it wasnt for Gray and Watts, we'd have kicked 2 goals on Saturday

Still would have beaten Hawthorn without Nicholls. :p

Which is roughly what Hawthorn would've kicked if you take away Matthew Nicholls.
