Roos saw it. He actually had a really good year playing second banana to Hogan in 2016. Then Goodwin took over as coach and ****** it all up.

Nailed it.
Goodwin has imported his crowbot coaching phillosophy that would alienate characters like Watts. Watts appears to be a well natured and personable fella. His body language can appear laconic at times and his face is easy to read. Crowbots however are clinical, single-geared, never question and are predictable.

All Jack needed was a coach to understand him, value his uniqueness and work with his strengths. I'd guess that strong friendships and encouragement would be his biggest motivators.

He's a ripper.

They are not a shit organisation and should do well but perhaps played him in wrong position and Goody was able to use him as a scapegoat. I agree it’s a bit rich of the supporters to now say that if he does well at Port it reflects badly on him. I think it more reflects he’s a better fit for us and Kenny is able to get the best out of him. I guess they would just be disappointed that’s all.

Goodwin has a LOT to learn.

I think Watts' was required to do too much at Melbourne, combined with the extra pressure on him to perform he probably didn't feel he simply had to "play his role" as he does at Port Adelaide.

Having Charlie Dixon playing alongside you is a pretty massive luxury as well.

I just can't believe how clean he is with the ball, on both sides as well! Could go down as one terribly lopsided trade in a few years time.

Pick 33 in a shit draft farken!

One passage of play from Jack that really stood out for me (and I made the comment in the gameday thread) was that he was hemmed in by about four Freo players, in space smaller than my bedroom closet, and calmly fires a handpass out straight into the hands of a Port player running past.

Absolutely spot on. The most important task of any coach/leader is to recognise, value and make the most of the different skills of the people in their team. And to help them feel what they bring to the team is important. Ken has nailed this. As have the leaders of the team.
He will give back in buckets.
I know how it was to be in a team (in working life) and have much to offer bit because i didn't handle (screw?) clients the way my boss would he was on my back relentlessly. And without a doubt my performance suffered. Now I'm out of it and I'm flying.

Nah. It was the right move. Good for Watts, good for Melbourne, and great for Port! They picked up Bayley Fritsch with their pick, who could end up being there Dom Barry. But Port is the real winner for sure!

I see why the Melbourne supporters all loved him tho, he's just the nicest guy!

Lloyd, Grundy, Rampe, Smith, McVeigh, Melican etc.

Tough backline. Very tough. A backline well suited to our small and medium forwards. We will be leaning heavily on Dixon and Marshall imo.

Makes me wonder whether any other talented 'non-crowbot' Dees could be shaken loose at season's end if the team doesn't live up to expectations.

He just looks happy. He absolutely took the time to soak in NTUA, was pumped when he kicked his goals and genuinely looked to be having a ball. Has probably played most of his games in an empty MCG. IMHO unless there is 50-60K people there it's a boring soulless arena.

I feel like he is the type of player that will get a serious boost from the Port faithful. He needed that game to get us all in his corner and now he has that.

I haven't caught any PAFC games this year due to being overseas, how has Watts been so far?
If you compare him to Jackson Trengove, who was our CHF last year. He's a much better kick, better at leading but needs Dixon and Marshall up forward with him so the talls get freed up more. Ryder being injured before meant Dixon had to ruck a bit and also Marshall has been out for a while due to his dad passing away as well as that being book-ended with concussion/shoulder injuries.

He's been as per advertised.

Which is exactly what we wanted. Another Justin Westhoff clone so Westhoff can do what he does elsewhere.

We got what we paid for, and right now anything more from him would be an unexpected bonus.
