Thats because so few people would even recognise a 36ers or Red player...
And that's pretty much my point, just because he plays AFL he is scrutinised far harsher than anyone else even when he has done absolutely nothing wrong.

I'm a bit over the angle of 'young dude does something - get a grip people!'

It seems the definition of a young male gets looser every year. Won't be long til 35 year old having **** ups are defended in this manner.

He's closer to 30 than 20 now. He's mature. If he was drafted five years ago he'd still be called a mature aged recruit.

If you want to defend his right to have a good time and do what he wants, fine, he is human, but don't use his age to justify a poor decision making process.

The issue is that he was silly enough to get filmed doing it.

Anyone that thinks that AFL players haven't partied like animals forever, is extremely naive. It has nothing to do with their proximity to 30 or anything else.

Some of the stories I've heard about the Hawthorn team of the late 80s would make your toes curl. The difference is that A. Smart phones weren't invented yet and B. They were champions

Like it or not, rightly or wrongly, Watts is a role model for many young people. At a time when drug use among our youth is becoming a serious health and social issue a role model openly being filmed simulating taking a narcotic is just purely idiotic. The argument "he was doing nothing illegal" is also a pretty flimsy argument here - if, as a society, our standard for what is acceptable behavior is the legality or illegality of an action we are in serious trouble. There are plenty of things that are not illegal but pretty reprehensible regardless. Watts is almost 28 years old; hardly a kid anymore. His actions and decision making was immature and sophomoric at best. He has now come out and apologized for his actions and we should be willing to give him another chance - however he should be judged by his actions not just his words. If he is truly contrite he needs to stop being an dick and start acting like an adult, make amends (doing some volunteer work with drug effected kids or being an ambassador against drugs would be a good start), repay the faith the club and his employer has placed in him and start preparing for life after football because the way he's currently heading that time may come sooner than he thinks.

watching that footage you could be excused for thinking he's 18. Melbourne never raised this boy and neither have we that's why he's almost 30 and obsessed with chemicals and boobies.

I use to see afl players out at rise at 4am off there **** from both adel clubs and visiting clubs in the late 90's early 2000. I could tell you some crazy stories about a few players none more crazy than adam heuskes .

At what age do you stop being obsessed with boobies? Asking for a friend.

How old was Methusaleh? 960-something IIRC
And on his death bed was trying to catch a look down the nurses shirt no doubt.

So what do you suggest someone like Jack Watts should do during his 8 week break? Stay home and collect rare stamps? Hold a Married At First Sight watch party with his friends drinking lemon cordial?
Going on an overseas trip and attending Oktoberfest really isn’t all that outrageous a thing to do. It really isn’t.

PS - Your all-time hero choked on his own vomit in the back of a car at age 33 after a night of heavy drinking.

All I was getting at there was that Watts is now at the age and experience in AFL where it shouldn't be used to explain or excuse things.

I'm not outraged by it. I am a bit perplexed a guy that is as old as me and been in the system for a decade now is still 'young'.

I agree.

Nobody would be calling 1989 Brereton young though and using that as their sticking point to excuse things.

Jack is 27. That's young enough to still act up but probably old enough to know to not do it in front of a camera.

What was Tredders doing at 27? Gray?

It is old enough to be professional in the AFL or at least a good enough player where you can get away with being a party boy. Not coming off a season where you were dropped and barely scraped in to the team in BnF.

Tredders isn't a partier. Pretty well known that he was extremely straight cut. Also a family man.

Gray I have no idea but he's also not single.

Who knows what other 27 year olds do away from prying eyes? You need to remember that he didn't break any laws. I mean geez, there was a whole group of Crows players there too, do you reckon they weren't drinking?

I know that.

I more concerned regarding his texts leaks that showed what his behaviour was like in season, and while he wasn't single either. Definite violation of no dickheads.

But he's young though, so hey, live and learn right?

You just moved the goalposts. His texts are a separate discussion and no one brought up his age where that stuff is concerned.

Becoming? Every data point in these Aust figures with the exception of cocaine use in the 20's and 30's is showing a decreasing trend in usage among youth. Peak drug use actually looks to have been when many on here were in their youth...including myself. Good times.

Watts will be 28 next month - hardly "just a boy" or "young young men". The guy is acting like a complete boofhead and needs to grow up.

in this incident he has done nothing wrong. nothing. a young guy with money legally having fun. other incidents of hear say, sure maybe he has done wrong but this isnt one of them.
