He was awful today. I know he's still young needs time etc etc... but he at least needs to show some intensity and stop losing his bloody feet!!!

You might find that a few of his falls were whn he was going for the ball & got a push that the umpire ignored before they got to the ball.

But in saying that he does need to keep his feet better but I can't think of worse conditions for a KPF who doesn't yet have the strength to hold ground over the ball.

He was poor today even though the conditions didn't suit him.

He needs to keep his feet better and play in front more often.

I'm not worried though, I still think he'll be a star.

I don't know what you see in him... He is a good kick for goal granted, and pretty good below his knees for a KPP but he is slow, skinny, lacks intensity, CANNOT tackle and has no mongrel about him whatsoever. It's a worry.

The superstar Carlton defenders were giving it to him all day, I wanted him to attempt a Hall style headlock. I can't wait until he gets his revenge in a couple of years, except most of those spuds won't be there to see it. By spuds I mean Thornton who is such a bad soft key defender that Hawthorn wanted him and Anderson who just battles. Walker is a good player, too quick and fit for Jack, he might be there but probably will be missing with an injured shoulder.

Watts' biggest problem was that he was leading back to goal at times then had to change direction and thus lost his footing, he needs to play in a side where he can lead up to the ball carrier all day and actually get a few kicks.

Right about the pushing. The Carlton guy playing on him in the 1st half was pushing him in the back and standing on the back of his foot as he took off to lead. This is why he fell 3 times in a row while leading, and why he cracked it at the umpire. It wasnt his fault, and it should be looked at because it was illegal tactic. I'd hope the club makes umpires aware of it during the week.
That said, he had a poor game. It wasnt a game suited to KPF's, but he still lacked intensity at times, and it is a confidence thing I believe. There's no point dropping him to Casey from now on. He needs gametime and experience at AFL level. Hopefully he can capture the form he showed a few weeks back with some good contested marking and leading to the right spots. He'll take time, but he will get there. Be patient people, it'll be years before we're challenging for a flag and will be reliant more on him anyway.

What he needs to do is to train his arse off and spend every spare minute in the gym. We need to get him and gentle Johnson on a program of aggression inducing steroids. Everyone knows Watts is skinny and will take time to develop but the worrying thing is he looks slow and timid.

Terrible today. Took a good mark and kicked a good goal, but that's all.
He fustrates me sometimes, but all he needs is some more game experience and to bulk up. Looks underweight and too slow at times.

In a few years, he'll be an absolute gun. Can't wait. :D

Our hope is that Tom Hawkins looked like he was running in cement early on and he's starting to develop into a decent player. I hope Watts gets sick of getting beaten up by defenders and develops some mongrel. I'm sure they weren't so nasty to him in school football Bayside...

WTF!!! what has jack shown to warrent that he will be a gun? you posters are making me sick

He's a beautiful kick for goal and I've seen him take some good overhead grabs. He was absolutely shocking today though. I had to leave at half time, just could not believe how bad he and Miller were going. The jury is still definitely out on Watts but what do you do? Try to shop him around and see what you can get when the footy world thinks he can't play or persist with him and try to get some size on him and a bit more fitness. Look how Kennedy is going now for West Coast, he looked hopeless at Carlton.

He's got a good pair of hands and he's a good kick for goal. He took some strong contested marks a few weeks back (against West Coast, I think).

You are gonna owe him a huge apology at the end of his career, after he's won a Coleman or two and led us to a few Premierships. :D

Honestly, if we can say that he took a good mark and kicked a good goal most weeks for the rest of the year, while getting more consistent with his intensity, then I'll be happy with his year.

I don't about slow, pretty hard to look quick when you fall over all the time, everything else I agree with. He has Josh Fraser written all over him ATM. I don't think anyone can hide the fact that he is soft and needs to toughen up.

Agree with you "Tempy Tiger" I watching last year at Casey and in my opinion if he wa snot a No.1 pick I doubt he would have had a game yet.

I hope I am very wrong but he does not show me any single ellement a No.1 should show.
Look at Trengrove, Scully and Gys. you can see the ability.
It seems the best anyone cames up with is he is a nice kick!
The big problem is you have to get the ball first!
My gut tells me have a No.1 pick who will struggle to play 50 games.
God I hope I am wrong

I really just don't get it sometimes...

Yep he sucked today, but it was his 7-8th game, it was pissing down and he is 2m tall and he's put some upper body weight (not enough yet, but...) yes he is struggling with his ability to change directions.

BUT one thing Watts isn't; slow. He may look slow out on the ground, but that’s because of his size. I'd bet if Watts was at Geelong ILO JPod he would already be kicking bags.
