Jacko

Not that puzzling surely? People get their stats out and point to his goal average but there is more to it than that. He paid no attention to the defensive element in football whatsoever. He'd kick 3 or 4 goals in a match but give away another 5 or 6 by clowning around while his opponent would run downfield setting up scoring opportunities. It's no coincidence that players such as Jackson never play in premiership teams. They're more a distraction than an asset.

I was embarrassed when he was at Geelong.

Jacko used to come into my work regularly around '06 and '07. Liked to have a chat about the footy and try and impress the female staff.

He bet me a carton of beer that Hawthorn would beat North in the '07 semi final. Didn't really want to be getting into bets with Jacko but didn't want to say no either.

North win and Jacko fronts up with a carton first thing Monday morning and drops them on my desk with a few choice words. He turns and begins to walk out but after a few steps, comes back.

He cracks open the carton, pulls out a warm beer and begins to drink it at 9am on a Monday morning as he strolls out of my office.

Dead Set Legend

Just saw a snippett of Mark Jackson on Open Mike about 5 minutes ago.
It didn't look like it was a send up and it did look like Mark was really angry, now maybe it was the worst part they showed to get everybody to watch, I just don't think so.
I have always admired Jacko as a player and a show biz typed fellow and I am still hoping that this is informative and not an awkward nasty name calling act from Mark.
Because he could really tell a story , and if this turns into a shit fight on TV he has done himself a disservice and Mike as well.
Mike says, now, and said in the past what he thinks, and isn't afraid to OWN his comments .

Jacko I hope shows some intelligence, and answers some questions without his obsessional need it seems to be a smart alec. Or an abuser.
Because he is a fascinating critter. Next Tuesday!!!!! LOOK OUT!
I think we need to wait and see the whole interview before commenting, but when I saw that snippet I wondered why he would come onto a programme if it was going to annoy him so much. Then when I read some of the comments here I thought, 'ah yeah, it's probably all an act. You're all right'.

But, Mike often says to people 'I'd been asking you to come on for ages!' Maybe he'd been nagging Jacko for ages and so he finally said 'okay. Let's just get this over with', and if that's the case, then he may actually have been extremely angry to be there.

Anyway, we'll wait and see! It's probably all for ratings, as most of you on here think.

Does it go to air this week?

I love stories like this.

I remember watching this back in the day. Was under 10, but my memories of it were that it was great. Looking it up though I see only 10 episodes were made, maybe I'm mixing similar shows as thought there were more episodes.

For those that remember this was this the one where the main character used to refer to Mother Earth?

That's right , Jacko is always one for publicity, so it may be an act. I hope it is fun , because if not, then it becomes awkward and unpleasant for no good reason. And Open Mike is a good show.

I love stories like this.
Then you'll be thrilled about this one!

Person I knew was at a nice hotel on the Gold Coast. Jacko was in the bar. Mainly being an annoying dickhead asking "do you know whom I AM??"

The end.

On second thoughts maybe it's not that good a story.

I do that all the time. It never ends well.

Lost any positive thoughts about the guy when I saw some of the "sportsman night" stuff he did with Chopper. Jackson just told stories of how he tried to intimidate his own teammates like Trevor Barker and generally just recalled stories about himself that painted him as an A-grade ****wit.

Yet, he wore these stories and his rep like a badge.

I heard an hour long interview on Perth radio one evening about 20 years ago with Harvey Deegan and Mark Jackson during that kind of quiet non ratings post Xmas time talking about his life and career, mostly outside of football.

There was no pre-promotion of his appearance - and there was no "Jacko" - he was just Mark Jackson - light years away from his persona. I'm not sure how the interview came about - maybe they knew each other.

He's actually a quietly spoken, intelligent man. I'm not sure if he has the bits of paper to back it up from some university - although I think Deegan mention he had studied something.

Bit of a look at the more regular, "normal" Jacko

I just love that of all that has changed...1 thing remains the same...

Old geezers bang on about how easy the players of the day have it now and how it was so tough in there day.

This looks circa 1995 or there abouts?

Judging from Sam Newman's forehead.

Probably studied a bit of marketing.
A lot of his persona is put on but it is also part of whom he is. He enjoyed clowning around and being fired up.
Interesting to watch this video on some channel 10 show back in 1990's.

I remember him playing for Souths in 79. Not sure if Mal Brown really knew what to do with him. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall watching the interactions between Mal Brown and Jacko.

Isn't jacko the all time most accurate set shot on goal since they started keeping data?

The best movie of all time was "Signal One."

the classic Mark Jacko Jackson / Christopher Atkins epic

Love Jacko he's the reason I'm a Geelong supporter his antics just resonated with me as a kid.

I heard somebody telling me once that he had a hit list of players he wanted to clobber which was left behind in one of the lockers down at Geelong when he got the ass!

Not sure if ture or exaggerated but would be interesting to know who was on that list.

He is he reason we have that bloody annoying chant Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi. It was taken from his energizer tv ads where he used to yell "oi"!!! At the end of it. For that reason alone I will never like him.
