Jacko

That was a funny story about Maurice Rioli… Jacko was known for his aggression at training, and Rioli’s cousin told him he should have a go at Maurice… ignorant Jacko did, Rioli went whack whack and sat him on his arse

“Yeah turns out that wasn’t a great idea”

Yeah calling out a golden gloves, not Jackos smartest move, teammates would have had a ball with that one.

I don't think that Jacko did himself any favours by the way that he carried on, but as others have mentioned he did bring up some good points. I have no problems at him having a go at a journalist such as Sheahan though. These people have for years written stories that are often their opinion only, or complete untruths that clearly effect peoples lives with no accountability at all.

I watched it

Mike is poorly skilled at handing someone angry

Sheehan uses a control philosophy when interviewing ...asking questions which validate his underlying belief about someone

For most that works ...however this time it didn't and he was left floundering

I suspect jacko has carried life grudges and this was his moment to unleash them at someone. I seriously don't understand why everyone is shocked ......what did you realistically think you were going to get from him.

Maybe when someone is ranting the best thing you can do is let them rant ...in fact encourage it slightly

I deal with meth users all day and trust what jacko said was mild compared to what I hear everyday ....I often let them go because I know they aren't really angry at anyone is just the steam needs to come out and I have created the safe avenue

If you try to simmer it or hose it down that just inflames them even more. I found it funny and sad all at the same time. I applaud Foxtel for at least showing it

Trying logical thinking with ranting angry people doesn't work ..harness the wackiness a bit and you'll get somewhere

One of the most honest blokes you'd ever meet. It was a ripper to watch him tonight. Mike shit himself, and Jacko is right. Mike Sheehan is not well liked by a lot of the footy world because he is caniving little squib like Hutchy and Barrett. His top 50 lists used to be way off the mark, and showed that he didn't have a clue about football. As Jacko said to him: How many games did you play Mike?

I met Jacko a few times years ago, and he's a top bloke. Very honest, calls a spade a spade, and has done a lot for charity. I remember years ago when Brunswick were going broke, so he went down and played 4 games for them to help them out. For no charge. When they were still in the VFL. Great viewing, and speaks the truth about football too!
Sheahan did play 55 games for Werribee in the VFA, he's been covering Football since the late 60's. He's seen a lot of games, the journos are all going to be on a hiding to nowhere. It still happens today, nobody likes Tony Jones, Hutchy, Caro or Damien Barrett, so what? Jacko does have a heart, but he also suffers some sort of pyschotic disorder and that was plainly evident in this interview. I'm pretty sure Graeme Richmond didn't tell him to go seeking out Michael Roach and knock him out? Brian Taylor was also a casualty of the over flow of Richmond big men at the time. They also had David Cloke in the team. In effect Jacko was 4th on the list behind Roach, Cloke, BT and then came Jacko despite him kicking 131 goals in the reserves in the 1980 season. His two seasons at Melbourne were excellent, but he couldn't get along with Barassi. He mentions Crosswell, but Crosswell knew Barassi better than anyone. Jacko is his own worst enemy. He need not blame anybody but himself for not playing 200 games and kicking 700 or 800 goals.

True, but BT snotted a few blokes behind play too, don't worry. I remember him elbowing Melbourne fullback Danny Hughes back in the late 80s!

I can't believe people are still falling for the Jacko act. Was hard to believe people fell for it back then & it's staggering anyone still falls for it now.

True to form, Jacko was there for self promotion and what we got was his act.

He was a disgrace as a footballer because he was an 'individual' in a team sport. It got him a brief career as a celebrity and that was always his goal. The pity for him was he had talent as a footballer and none as an entertainer.

I don't care if that was an act or not. Constantly professes he was a mercenary and was proud to knock out a team mate and game legend in an intra club practice match.

Dead set flog. Game is better off without him.

Yep, he's a complete and utter fkwit.

I'm all for characters in footy and in life but this guy is a deadshit moron.

Personally, I prefer footy when it still had characters around. Sadly missing these days!

You know, it is quite possible to be a "character" and not be a complete and utter fool.

There is nothing even remotely engaging about Jacko. He is an oxygen thief.

Calls himself a mercenary and throws a tanty about Mike being a mercenary journalist. Thinks he's a quintessential good bloke, but excuses every despicable thing he's ever done. Knocking out Robbie Flower in a practice match just because he thought he wasn't a worthy opponent. That's a thug.

Does he? I doubt it & just reckon he worked long ago that the speaking circuit is an easy gig that pays well so he acts accordingly. No doubt Jacko wasn't suited to heavily structured football environments & constantly self sabotaged however we see lesser 'in your face' examples of that all the time.

Jacko probably genuinely dislikes Mike, so who woudlnt jump at another easy payday to publicly air what they think. However there were several times in the interview that Mike had to hide his amusement & feign offense, so I reckon both were playing it up a bit for the camera.

You're sadly missing morons who hit players behind play?
No mate. I don't condone violence, and yes, Jacko was a dickhead onfield as well as off. I was referring to the characters of the day, like Dougie Hawkins, Dipper, Ablett, Brereton etc.. You being a Hawks fans shouldn't throw stones though. Hawks have had some of the dirtiest teams in history. Watch the first quarter of the '88 grand final against Melbourne. Where the Hawks took out about 4 blokes!

One of the less raucous bits was about the letter Jacko wrote to Lindsay Fox. Appeared to catch Jacko off guard a bit with that one.
