Exciting Storm youngster Jackson Nicolau will join the Cowboys next season with the club hoping he will prove to be Johnathan Thurston's long-term halves partner.

Melbourne had been grooming Nicolau as the replacement for Scott Hill, who will join London club Harlequins next season, but Storm recruitment head Peter O'Sullivan is philosophical about the 18-year-old Innisfail product's decision to move to Townsville.

"The Cowboys have offered way more than we can afford," O'Sullivan said."But one door closes and another door opens. We're talking to someone and hope to clinch a deal soon.

O'Sullivan said five-eighth was Nicoloau's best position."

This sucks ...

I read that we had signed him for 2 years on LU ...

Can anyone tell me more about him??. I've heard he has big raps on him and as a cowboys supporter i think i should be happy that we have got him.

Really talented 5/8th that we've been grooming for a few seasons now as the long-term replacement for Scott Hill ...

Really catty of NQ to steal him after all that development ...

You do realise, being from Innisfail, that he has probably been in the North QLD development system since he was about 10?

This is the way of things unfortunately. You can bring in schoolkids, develop them in your club and just when you think the investment will pay off someone offers them overs to switch clubs. I don't know whether the answer liesin salary cap offsets for these kids or whtyher you just keep an eye out on other clubs' juniors and go poaching them yourself.

That is life.

Anyway it's not stealing, if anything, the storm should have tried harder to keep him if he is this good.

Just Good Recruiting by the Cowboys.:thumbsu:

Yep. Ready made replacement for Scott Hill.

Promise of game time in that position will see him leave Brisbane (IMHO).

Don't know if he will make the change though. He's supposedly a 5/8th come Lock, but I see those two positions being filled at the Bronco's by both Lockyer (obviously) and Eastwood for a long time to come.

Please come down to Melbourne Moon! :D

He's on par with Chris Walker:) .
Probably. Although Chris Walker is on much less money, is farther down in the pecking order for a regular game and has performed very well when given the opportunity. So yeah in essence they are nothing alike.

Yet he's still played well whenever given a chance with us.

Last time I checked, you wasted good money on Firman and he now wants out.

Oh, foolish Cowgirls ...

So you can't count? Is that what it is all about? 15-10=5. 18-15=3. His formative years would have been spent under instruction by Cowboys coaching staff, in all likelyhood.
