i'd be happy with a blend of 1/4 MAckie and 1/4 Boris and 1/2 Thurlow.

Doubt Mack and Boris will ever be REPLACED....

Go Catters

Just get a feeling there might be a LOT of congratulators when he kicks his next goal - our players are the type of guys who would be a little embarrassed by the lack of support shown to JT as compared to Burbury when he kicked his goal. The fact that it was highlighted both on TV (especially with Motlop calling out) and in the Herald Sun today will just add to it.

He’s getting better all the time

A hurt kid from Tas that’s cool (No, I can't complain)
Another pick from Wells , hes no fool (No, I can't complain)
Thurlow’s the name , and yeah he’s got game
But wait till he has played 50 , the others will be looking for who to blame

You’ve got to admit he's getting better,
A little better all the time (can't get no worse)
Have to admit hes getting better,
He getting better and better ... learning to control that backline

Better, better, better
Getting so much better all the time !!!

Something like that anyway

So now that he's been dropped* what did everybody make of his first few senior games for the club?

A few questions I'm interested in:
-How long before he makes it back into the seniors?
-Will he be in our best 22 regularly at all later on in this season, or is he still primarily developing?
-If not, how long before you foresee he will be in the best 22 week in week out?
-Where is he by comparison to other young defenders trying to get a foot in the door of the senior team (ie Bews/ Brown)?
-If he plays more games this season, has he shown enough to suggest he may snag a NAB rising star nomination?

*= I assume he's been dropped and is not injured

He was rested, not dropped.

Mitt . First of all let make qualify. Im on this kids bandwagon, buckled in whipping the horse.

1, - To get a game in your first year at the club speaks volumes. They rate him. Having said that , he may not see any action for the rest the year or he could be back next week. They will look at from a stress v education v game result ...pov

2 , as per 1

3 , Being a lock is the next step perhaps comparison to Taylor Hunt is worthwhile 2008 draft , first game 2010. Then in 2010 (7games) , 2011(13g) , 2012 (21g). One could see that it may take 2-4 years to be a lock. Very few do it quicker. ehhhmmm (clear throat sound) (hello Mr Selwood).
But he does look closer than most we have drafted. He has so much to like. If he doesn't suffer to much from 2 year blues , he could be almost a regular next year.

4, Two very differnt players Bews and Brown , and both different to Thurlow.

Brown is years away from being a defender imo. He is trying to just find anyway he can to get a game.

Bews is probably competing for a Taylor Hunt type role , perhaps following his progress. He was young when drafted so he may take more time. On a Poodle Hunt time line he gets an outing this year but id say its more likely in 2014.
Both talented both have time and will take time but "The earth i slow and the ox is tasty" ...or something like that.

5, Perhaps , but he would have a better chance by playing less than 10 this year and get a nomination next year. Its a nicety. Remember. GA29 never got a nomination.

Hell, this boy is a talent.

He has so much confidence for an 18yo and seems competent at every area of the game.

He is a quite brilliant kick, has quick hands and marks like Kenny Hinkley.

I think he might be the best we have drafted in some time. The Statue of Wells needs to be re-sized up a few inches.

Poise is something immediately apparent in young players who will turn out to be something special. He has it in spades.

Watched the replay against the GIants and he seemed pretty good to me. Sure he was no star but did quite nicely for a 3 game player who is 18 y.o.

His skill set look very god and I would expect he will only get better and better as he gets more game time in the senior side.

I doubt he will see finals games this season but he could well do in 2014.

There were many times in the game where I'd see a Cats player I didn't immediately recognise do something with such incredible poise & wonder who the hell the talent was, only to then see the #40 on their back and marvel at how such a raw young kid to fit so seamlessly with the likes of Boris, Smithy & Jimmy (they were the vets who played closest to him for most of the game). Jacko's a real talent, and an absolute keeper.

Thurlow has played more than I thought he would , looking at some early posts but Im glad he has.
He adds pace, poise and will benefit more playing alongside Enright than playing along side VFL top ups.

Is it to early to call...another win for Wells? Most of us questioned his choice , why not Grundy , why not someone else.

Can anyone name a player drafted after Jacko that we would prefer to have on our list?

One of those players who seems to have more time than others, love watching him play.

Stats vs GWS - 19 disposals - 10 kicks, 9 handballs; 8 marks; 3 tackles.

Heaps to like about this kid - skilful , poised , aerialist , good decisions , finds it , uses it well.
Can't wait too see him once he has a few extra kgs on that 190cm frame. Get the feeling he will relish the physical stuff as well , see him as our next Joel C , albeit with better disposal skills ;)
