Wasn't the game played on one side of the ground, regardless of possessions Cometators where surprised they where calling Thurlows name in the VFL, stiff not to be running out on the G today.Only had 15 possessions right?

A first round pick, excellent by foot, strong mark, agile, versatile, yet strugglers like Murdoch are played before him.
I wonder what has happened here?![]()
Scott doesn't like outside players.
Some guys dont get the same opportunity as others. Hopefully Thurlow gets a better crack at it next year at another club.

Turbo your reference to Thurlow not performing in big games is interesting given I can't recall him letting us down. Examples?. It seems to me the club are using him as one to move on for salary gap space and are playing kids in his spot? Thurlow averages over 20 v Sydney in his games v them and his last game v Richmond had 23 I think and played well. This year v GWS was good. Hasn't played in any big games aside from them for 2 years as he's not getting picked for whatever reason.Time for him to go...
I dont think its so much "outside" we have added Narkle and others... but its a combination of outside, lack of durability , lack of intensity at the ball and man .. he really is on the edge..probably if we had not traded in 2e and found Stewart etc..he would be in there..like Murdoch etc. Although I think Murdoch is in the gun too.
Its time for some of these players to live and die on big game performance.. and some of these guys just go missing .and lack influence. Said it about Motlop for years in finals till last year when he had a good series.
Anyway I agree ..we need to add a couple more combative types that will find a way when the heat is on. A good start will be playing Constable ..so Thurlow is getting past at a rate of knotts.
so Time for him to go.
Id like to see Jacko get a run outside.
The knock about his "hardness" or intent is an interesting one. Before the knee, he did it. After it, ive seen him go when its his turn and then have some moments that were, for mine, out of character.
IMO he's one that could use an block of 4 games or so. If Parsons, who I think eventually will be ok but is a horror right now can get 5 -6 in a row, then Jacko can be afforded the same.
Give him the chance but needs more than one game to prove it.
But of course, it may be too late. I liked what he did in the 3 VFL games I saw last month in some trying conditions but it clearly wasn't enough to get promoted for whatever reason.
Unlike Lang and Smedts, I reckon he aint done.
Go Catters

That comment was made after I had referenced Murdoch... but generally id say it not one specific player but a feeling that when we have played in these big important highly contested games that certain players go missing... and I suspect its this that has seen Thurlow dropped from the group. We have tried to add more tackle orientated , contest types. I think he has been unlucky , if he has stayed fit he could quite likely have been a regular in the side now but its almost like he has missed his window on the rebuild.
To me, that is the core reason we do well H&A and fail in the finals. In the finals you need the skills to finish the good work.
I look at the players they have gone with. Murdoch being by far the most obvious. But also, for the Scott years team structures and coaching tactics seem to have been right at the top. Scott is noted as a top tactical coach. Previous years it was individual players improving in skills. No-one spoke about team structures when Bartel and Ottens and Enright started hitting their straps.Probably a few reasons.. but my gut feeling is we basically just run out of talent... a few guys just cant go up to the next level
It appears the club is done with him
We have Blicavs, Henry, Kolo, Stewart, Bews, Tuohy, Guthrie, Taylor and Henderson definitely ahead of him in defense
We even play Zuthrie ahead of him
Pretty telling I would have thought
Kelly and Duncan appear to have the wings stitched up.
In the midfield he is not a chance to get in
I would have thought that if we really have Dahlhaus in the mix for trading in, and the dogs interest previously in Thurlow, that a deal could be done next year with exchanges of picks to make that happen
Thurlow would be very good in the Doggies team
I actually really like the guy and think he has a lot to offer in a strong team. But our defense is fairly set as it was in Hamlings time. And the fella that went to Carlton and then Sydney.
Both decent backs that never played for us
I think he will go, and we may regret it in hindsight
OK TC fair call. I thought Dahlhaus was a RFA. No problemDHouse is a UFA.. no trade required.
Thurlow to a club that wants him.. will be a Lang trade probably. The Dogs have a couple of points players to accommodate ..so they may not want to even give up a pick in the 50's.. It may depend on the comp they get for FA's
Thurlow will be a good pick up for whichever club he ends up, shame its not at the cats.It appears the club is done with him

He got strings of games both this and last year without ever settling in or demanding selection. Uneven form and not in a position where we are desperate for coverage makes it hard to justify his selection... the club tried to address this by playing him on the wing but he isn't as strong there.Hamling- Doggies then Freo.
Agree with you regarding Thurlow. He simply has not been given the opportunity of a run of games to get his confidence up, or to show what he is capable of. I would hate to see him as part of a premiership team at Hawthorn, but it would be great for Jackson. He is a classy finisher, and we need those in September, but as always, we must get there.
And the club surely realise that Harry and Hendo are only here for the short term now. Anyway, not our responsibility or call.
I think he means the player who went to Carlton, then Sydney. Jeremy LaidlerHamling- Doggies then Freo.

Sorry-Correct. Read too early in am.I think he means the player who went to Carlton, then Sydney. Jeremy Laidler
So you're thinking he's of no use to us.He got strings of games both this and last year without ever settling in or demanding selection. Good kicking is useful, but sadly it can only get you so far when the rest of your game is a bit indifferent.
Every player on the list is of use to us, but Jackson is certainly a marginal/fringe player as things currently stand. So you're thinking he's of no use to us.
