spot on hbk, he's got a great mixture and as you say, his composure and calmness is striking for a new player.

he kicks the footy low and hard and with great precision.
Helps that he is confident in his own abilities too :thumbsu:

I was at the game so am tempted to download it just to watch his efforts (hard to notice at the game).... but did note the brilliant pass under pressure into the forward line, can't remember who marked it. Such poise.

Hopefully he holds his spot because he is a dream to watch.

Does anyone know what kind of tank/fitness he has? Obviously he seems tailor made for the half back line, but he could contribute in the middle or wing with his composure.

The amazing thing about it is that his 2 games have been 2 of the biggest, high pressure games you could imagine in the home and away season - against an unbeaten Essendon at a full Etihad and then Collingwood at the house of ferals. Yet he looks completely at ease.

Very mature for his years and level of experience. From the last two games I can see why so many are impressed with the potential of this young Cat.

I am definitely not the type to anoint young players as future stars, but I honestly can't think of a second gamer who shows as much poise, composure and solid decision making as he has so far. And with the skills to back it up. Very impressed.

Totally agree -what i also like is his attitude and style -alot of young players (some of them who arent much good ) are into this aggro -bumping -mouthing off -hes not interested in that nonsense

A very cool customer -and whatever success he has -i dont think it will go to his head

Should I get rid of Hartlett?

EDIT: sorry posted in the wrong thread, thurlow looks like a great player though!

Terrific couple of games getting mid teen possissions and using it extremely well
Has that characteristic poise and will be an interesting proposition with a few more preseasons and kilos on that frame.

Looks a real prospect. The pass mentioned upthread was to Hawkins on the lead - an absolute bullet. And I think he had more than one of those. Looks a bit like Guthrie with the ball, though his passes are more of the stab variety.

Get used to seeing T Hunt, Murdoch, Thurlow, Guthrie listed across out back 6 for a while going forward.

And yes, Thurlow has been excellent in 2 games. He has the kind of intangible about him that shows he isnt overawed by the moment and that the game is not too fast for him - where as say Mots needs to take 1/2 a sec to steady Thurlow has that composure built in already. Very impressive so far.

Dont want to put the pressure of the next Enright tag on him but I hope like hell he is paying attention to EVERYTHING Boris does....

Not really sure why - as obviously I have not heard or seen enough about this player to make any real assessment of him - but I reckon he will be a real player for us.

Reckon he will overtake players H-S, Caddy, Stringer, Murdoch and even Vardy.

He plays a different position to these guys - but as an effective player in the positions they play - think he will pass them all within the next 12 months.

Do you guys remember (or know) of those graphs that Sheehan does for draft prospects?
He rates things like disposal, agility, evasiveness etc by elite, very good, above average etc.
Does anyone know or have a link to Thurlows ratings?
Going by the first 2 games, and I might be slightly rosey on these, but he looks to have elite foot skills, close to elite composure and ability to find space and seems to have very good over head marking. His agility looks pretty good as well as his running patterns (finds SO much space, which is great with our game plan).
I'm as excited by Thurlows first few games as I was about Selwoods first few games.

With some easier games coming up would like to see him given licece to break lines with his pace even if he stuffs up needs to learn to take the game on a bit but very good so far in his 2 games and looks a long term prospect in "Wells we trust".

While I think its fine we can all congratulate him on a great debut and see what good potential he has I just want to remind you all he is only 19 with two games of AFL under belt. Therefore he will probably have more than a few shockers in the near future as all young blokes do early on in their careers. So I hope you can support him when this happens because there is a lot of bagging that goes on around here of young blokes still learning the craft.

Support him the same way we stuck by Hawk during his early years and he will pay you all back in spades looks like 200 game player

I love the look of Thurlow. Surprised that no one has really mentioned his leap - he did take a fairly nice hanger in his first game (as well as in the VFL the week before). Along with confidence, excellent skills and good pace and agility, he reminds me of Menzel. He has done nothing to show me that he cannot play from a forward flank, when everyone else seems to think he is a back flank

i was gonna kick your dancing kitty there for being a negative nancy CF if you were not 100% correct. :D

Usually the faster the rise the bigger the fall.... so you can bump this when it happens as Im sure it will.

He certainly looks the good and has the tools.

(btw.. my 2 kids ..3 and 5... LUV the dancing kitty and when im reading here and they see me on my laptop I always have to show them the dancing kitty... hilarious stuff.. so I could never REALLY kick the kitty....)

Was it just me or did he spend a bit of time in the middle on Saturday night? Might have been running with Pendlebury?
Love the versatility of this kid!
Anyway, for me I think his marking ability is potentially elite. Looking at his highlight package at draft time, that was the real standout feature for me. Almost Taylor like with his clean hands and ability to get correct position. Saw it in the first game with a very nice grab. Exciting prospect without a doubt - looking forward to seeing him with 50 games experience under his belt.

I reckon you're right,...I think with his height and shape he could play anywhere,...just a great prospect.

I'm confident he'll be churning out 20 possession games real soon, just wish we had another one!

Like a lot of our kids , I see him showing bits and pieces of being a good player for us. He a bit to go but he may end up playing more than I originally thought. The 2015 side is taking shape , if we can get some more games into a couple of other players we anticipate will be players for our next group we will be very close to a 1/2 to 3/4 of the side done.

As much as some picks are obvious at draft time , some picks require some strong additionl input from our system , Thurlow is one the Wells team gets a big tick

Great to see a young bloke from Launceston making such an impact in his first year, especially at a strong club like the cats. I think he has it all, just needs time now. Thankfully the cats can afford that time and he will get every chance to become the complete player for year to come!
