Reminded me a lot of my other favourite Launcestonian AFL player, Grant Birchall, tonight. He was very composed when he had the ball, he didn't rush any of his kicks, made some good defensive spoils and tackles when off the ball, and could have easily had another five or six disposals from where he was in space, but his teammates decided not to use him.

Definitely the most composed debut I have seen form any of the Tassie kids to come through since I have been following them (about three years now). Only Howe had a comparable debut. I thought Thurlow played his role extremely well and has confirmed what I was saying about him all last year, that he is the most well rounded Tasmanian to come through the system since I have been paying attention. Hopefully he can keep improving and live up to his potential.

An excellent debut. Thought he handled himself very well in a tight, physical, high pressure match. Can recall one passage of play where he looked out of his depth. Exciting prospect.

We have another Tasmanian boy from Hobart waiting for his opportunity, George Burbury, first game back in VFL kicked 6, this guy could be the new Menzel.

Thurlow looks a player to me. I like the taller, all round skilled players.

Cannot wait to see him in 50 games time.

I posted in pre-season I hoped he could emulate Dyson Heppell in year 1...big call and all I can say based on tonight's performance is keep up the good work. Solid debut and like all our inductees "more please"

Composure was something i noticed. Didn't look like the speed got to him and considering it was a top of the table clash it impresses even more. Another rising star nomination for geelong this year?

Sign of a good player IMO. Great players seem to have an innate ability to find time and space in pressure situations.
To show so much composure and in general good decision making, 1st up in a big game, is a mighty effort.
Don't often make big calls, but I will here. We've found a beauty.

Just looked very composed, which is good signs considering he was debuting in a high pressure game like that.

Hope to see more of him this year.

Very good first half....played with such composure. Struggled a bit after half time, fitness wise...but he's a player all right.

This Wells bloke is a freak.

Well I think it's safe to say he looked composed.

Impressive debut.

Congrats to Jackson on a great debut looks to be another quality pick from Wells- looked so assured for one so very young. Seriously talented kid

A first gamer who looked like he had played 50. Great debut and yet another great Wells pick. Great composure, good disposal and good decision making.

I don't think it was fitness that was a major issue after half time. He still ran hard to find space, he was open on a number of occasions but other options were taken. Like a lot of first gamers, you could tell his teammates were reluctant to use him at times if there were other options.

He handled the pace of the game well. As I said in the VFL review , he makes good position and did get used more in AFL. Yet another kid that will be making some commentators grind their teeth with frustration. "Its not supposed to be like this , not another one......" Looks to have plenty of time with the ball. Good sign and give he games his disposal will be shown to be better than it was in G1. That we played him in a big game and didn't get lost is a huge plus. Another player who we will be wanting to put big effort into his next preseason cause he looks likely to be a regular soon as his body is ready.
