In the last 5 or so years there has not many players get games in there first year at the cattery.Even jimmy gazz SJ etc spent time in the VFL in the early years.

Think both of them played the first 10 from memory , starting well then tapering off. It was a major reason what GA29 didn't get a RStar nom.

Surprised that no one has really mentioned his leap

first thing I noticed in his draft video and then watching him play this season.
His vertical is brilliant and there is a passage of play where he didn't take the mark but he went up two-footed and gained terrific height.
Usually common in basketballers (the Americans in particular) who can jump just as high off two feet as they do from one.

At about 6ft'3 in the old, he's got the entire repertoire, just a matter of ironing out as many errors in his game as possible rather than criticizing them during their first 50 or so games.

He was a surprise first rounder in the draft to me, but when I saw he topped the U18 Carnival with highest average marks and possessions then it became fairly clear why.

Just hope we can snag another 190cm type like him this year, I know we need a 196cm type for Lonergan and a ruck, but gee if there was another like Thurlow I'd be tempted to complete the bookend.

Probably a bit like the heavy cycle training Fred. Perform worse but getting better. At this stage he is getting better every minute of every game , just being out there . I have a feeling he is starting to think he belongs.

Yes, quiet today, but he doesn't look out of place.

I just love this kid. Great composure, excellent decision maker, lovely skills, good overhead. Just needs to add a bit of size and improve his endurance (which will both come in the next couple of years) and he'll be a very valuable player. May not have got a lot of it today but when he did get it he didn't waste it. Grat signs.

I loved the way that, after he'd scored the goal, Steven Motlop was the one aware enough and caring enough to call the boys in to congratulate Jacko on his first AFL goal.

Unfortunately no one else shared Stevie Motlop's enthusiasm.

Who knows where this kid will play in 5 years, but from what I've seen he has the capacity to read the play well and could be exceptional at this down the track.
Jimmy Bartelesque? Is that too early??

Yes when I saw Motlop doing that he went up even further in my estimation. Unfortunately others in the team went down for not helping Thurlow celebrate his first AFL goal, like they did for Burbury.

Well done young Thurls - hope its the first of many you drift up to collect in a long and illustrious career at Geelong. :thumbsu:

And good on you Motlop for your improvement in one week and being team-oriented! :thumbsu:
