thought he was decent

showed some good things but unfortunately being an outside player he has no chance at Geelong

our club just wants instant results, no time for an outside player who needs team cohesion

will be the same with Brown and Lang, skillful outside players need to be part of a team for an extended period of time

interesting tense.

Disappointing tonight. Very fortunate to get another opportunity. Then buggered it both offensively and defensively. Probably remain in the side due to Bews and Stewart injuries but hard to be confident in him turning it around. Just not up to the level.

He was starting to develop nicely before the knee. Terrible luck for the lad. But he looked every inch a VFL player last night.

Hope he keeps his spot because of Stewart coming back in for the Bews injury.

Thurlow deserves more than 1 game at senior level in a row, especially considering that game was against Richmond at the MCG.
Yeah I agree - and he should be encouraged to continue taking risks. He doesn’t seem to be the kick he was, but it’s not going to help if we drop him for poor execution if he then returns to the team in a couple of weeks. Fair enough if we had a full squad, as he didn’t contribute a lot as a whole, but this would be a good time to give him another run. We had so many players turn it over last night, his unfortunately for him was right at the end. But no worse than a couple of Danger’s clangers.

That mark Jackson pulled down in the last quarter was a ripper and l believe he's got big talent but the confidence just isn't there atm.

Scott needs to focus on the fringe players more effectively, that's where his coaching is failing down in my estimations.
He's 6'3" and a solid body, shame if he falls by the wayside.

He is the same height as henry and a much better kick.

I thought he was decent also apart from that horrific clanger in the middle. His second effort was good but he didn't tackle the arms and they got a goal anyway.

Ok 191cm and can elevate like Henry, but maybe not physical enough at AFL level l don't know because we don't get to see him often enough.
Scott needs to run with him for a while and show some support otherwise let him go and bring back Murdoch l guess.

Im starting to think they should try him as a half forward.. He is not robust enough for the middle of a hurley burley afl environment.
He can mark and kick..in some respect is a little like 2e.
Too slow-thinking, Turbo, doesn't show the necessary quick instincts for modern footy.
1. He doesn't think ahead, and know what he's going to do before he gets the ball, and
2. When he does get it and start to think about what's next, he takes too long.

You may be right.. im think more in terms of skill assets... and as we have seen with the Blitz and Daw's etc.. if you persist it is possible to develop game sense. I get what you are saying .. I think id frame it as instinctive ..I dont think Joel always thinks ahead.. he just knows what to do..and it sort of amazing sometimes when he messes it up..it just looks so glaringly not Selwood.

VFL andf AFL are two different speeds.

Maybe this is what happens when a player gets one game in the seniors and then he is ommitted. Becasue I don't remember him being slow on the uptake when he had some games at AFL level under him.

Thurlow's trump card has always been his execution. From early on his vision never seemed to be great though. Got a lot of accurate low kicks picked off because he didn't see opposition players in the way early. Since his knee injury however his disposal seems to have gone down a notch. I can't remember him doing any standout bullet passes since he got back from injury, early he would do a few each game. Maybe its a result of all the muscle he has stacked on robbing him of touch.... I dunno. Right now he is getting played on potential, not output and while its worth persevering with him while there is space in the side he has to pick it up a bit to hold his spot longer term. Really hope he does it but starting to lose hope now.

Won't be in the AFL next year unfortunately. Doesn't win enough ball, not agile enough for smalls, very suspect one on one. He looked like a certified 200 gamer before the knee. Just hasn't come back with the same attributes. That's the game unfortunately

He will be in the AFL next year. Unfortunately it might not be with Geelong though.

Completely disagree. One of Thurlow's strengths is knowing when to run off his opponent. His anticipation is a level above.

Article in the Sun today about Thurlow contract status.

Manager says talks are ongoing, preference to stay with the Cats. Article says a few clubs showing interest, though (no surprises - he'd be a great pickup)

Hope he gets consistent senior performances at another team if he leaves. He’s good enough, we just bring him in (sometimes as a late change) and as soon as he doesn’t dominate we drop him without giving him a consistent run and without allowing him to work his way into it.

Prob go with GHS to Gold Coast

With zero disrespect meant to MOC, Thurlow's boots have more innate footy skill than he does.

Yet Jacko is on the outer.

Luv to see him stay but I can't see why he'd want to - Bloke can play even though he's made some skill errors in pivotal moments lately.

Comes in after way too much time in the VFL considering some of the players who continuously get games for lesser form.

Plays well against Richmond and stuffs up one crucial kick by trying to be attacking when we're chasing arse as usual.

Get's drops for guys like Parsons and O'Connor who's VFL form didn't warrant selection.

Once again another player who's been poorly handled by the MC IMO.
