I saw him in action a few times. Looked alright but personally I would of kept Notte on the list instead.

I can't believe we are using a pick on him. Surely this is a bad move with the limited space we have on our list.

Can someone explain what the situation is with father/son? If we have the first pick of a round, isn't there limited benefit to us taking him?
This from afl.com.au

"FOR every nominated father-son player, each club in the competition has the option to bid for the player, in reverse ladder order. If a bid is made, the club that nominated the father-son player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain its hold on that player.

If the club nominating the father-son player declines to match the selection nominated, the club with the successful bid must use that selection at the draft on that player.

Any club that makes a successful bid on a father-son selection is bound to use the pick they nominate.

If no bid is made by another club, the club that nominated the father-son eligible player will forfeit its last selection in the draft to select the player."

Not necessarily. If someone says they will pick him with a second round pick, then we will use a third round pick, as that is our next pick. However, if we were to bid a second round pick for a F/S from another team, then they will have to use their second round pick.

Im hoping theres some sort of loophole that allows you to use a PSD pick in the bid...

Im hoping more that he has an AFL pre season and blossoms into a Heath Shaw quality HB.

Basically all I have left is hope

Last pick in the ND, or PSD, it's still the same. It's a senior list spot.

It is speculative but im happy with the pick. He's the son of a gun and i love the way he goes about it and takes the game on. He's improved rapidly in the wafl in the last year or so and i think he'll be good for us.

It's a feel good move, nothing more and nothing less.

God forbid he plays for us in 2011 and id be suprised if he lasts any longer than his initial contract. Bad move by the club and their are allot more deserving players in the WAFL who on merit should be allot closer to getting an AFL call up.

He tries hard but his skills and decisions arent currently up the scratch. He's a development player with an outstand chance of turning into something decent.

If it was the same we would be able to bid it.

But it isnt so we cant.

I understand that, but that wasn't my point, but I should've elaborated to begin with. The original point was that both positions are still a senior list spot. I don't believe he's worthy of it, from what I know of him.

WC shouldn't of bid for him at all. WC were likely to select him where they want to anyway. Now WC have backed themselves into a corner of definitely having to pick him in the ND, when they could of likely PSD him, or perhaps Rookied.

Brennan isn't such a required player for our future that we couldn't gamble on him not being around at a PSD or Rookie pick. WC have him locked in unnecessarily. What if a better option falls through. Too bad for us now, WC have handicapped themselves, voluntarily.

I've been like a preacher in saying that sentiment should have nothing to do with decisions being made. Locking Brennan in as a F/S that must be selected in the ND smacks of sentimentalism.

WC have Jordan Jones and Will Schofield. That's why I'm so miffed by this decision.

Guys, don't bash the kid if you never seen him play before, at least give him a full season or two before you start hanging shit on him, he couldn't possibly be as bad a prospect as what Notte was

If we wait until he's played a year at AFL before we make our minds up, it means he gets drafted. Those against are saying that he shouldn't be drafted in the first place, in the ND.

My argument is that we've already got enough of his type. Brennan is excess on top of our excess. Also, that he wasn't required to be locked in as a F/S for us to select. Now we'll likely pay more than what we could've.

But can he kick?

I mean, is he as good / bad as B Jones because thats who he will take over from and he'll also be competing with J Jones, Waters and even A Selwood down back.

Only time will tell I suppose but hopefully this means some other dead wood is being moved on.

Has anyone seen him play regularly? I'd never heard of the kid until Father/Son talks not to long ago.

Hopefully some nice genes :footy:

Maybe Brennan's recruitment is actually giving an insight into what the Eagles are thinking. The current half back flankers must be destined for position changes. I wouldn't be surprised if Hurn is forward bound and Sheppard is midfield bound. Mitch Brown would take Hurns' duties.

It is a baffling decision. It almost seems that the club is so desperate to finally use the father/son rule that logic was overlooked.

I am all for club tradition and linking our past with the present but surely common sense has to ultimately rule. I would be staggered if Brennan was on any club's ND radar.

I confess that I have not seen much of him play and I look forward to be proven wrong.

so you are "baffled" at the club for wanting a player you havent bothered to research. and because you havent, logic by club is overlooked?

i havent researched him either, but plenty of people who have watched him play have mostly said what he has shown is encouraging. he is obviously on other clubs' radars, otherwise they wouldnt have pulled the trigger. if they were desperate to use a f/s, they woudl have already done so 2 years ago.
