Blues likely will make an offer for first rounder as mids in this years draft is soft.. they are all talls.. we are ok with talls for now and have Ben Silvagni coming on next year as key forward
St Kilda in a similar situation.
May look for someone older in a trade though.

I don't disagree with that - it's very hard to see Hopper moving without a R1 pick going in the opposite direction. I'm just saying we almost certainly won't be trading our first pick this year.

Last year we were told ad nauseum we'd have to trade our first to secure Marchbank and Pickett, but that obviously did not eventuate.

Expect a similar story this year - we'll almost certainly hold on to our 2017 1st and either deal our 2018 1st or make some other moves to satisfy the Giants.

I loved March and wish he didnt go.

But he isnt Hopper and we arent having to do a crash course in evacuating players due to our cap and list size collapsing.

3-way trade?

Adelaide 1st to GWS
Hopper to Carlton
Gibbs to Adelaide

Maybe something extra needs to go GWS' way depending on how Hopper progresses throughout this year, but that's pretty fair in my book

Who cares where he was drafted.

Point is some VIC clubs will come with some big $$$ offers and he will have a decision to make.

Yeah, it really means nothing now. Not sure why I mentioned it.

This whole beacon of hope story line doesn't add up. In 2014 Isaac Heeney was nominated by Melbourne at pick #2 and Swans matched. That's what would've happened with a draftee, academy or not. Hopper and Kennedy didn't go earlier coz the clubs didn't rate them higher than where they went. The idea of "if not academy, they'd have gone higher" is BS.

Agree to disagree mate, means nothing now. My bad for mentioning it. Pointless discussion.

Pick 17 or 18 for Hopper?

Yeah not even close.

How does GWS feel about accepting our first? Have a feeling it's going to be top 10.
Depends on where it is.

I'll still point out he is a starting 22 whose family are members of the club since the beginning.

I cant see him going nor us wanting him gone.

It's probably going to be between 4 and 8.

Come on man, how boring would this shitfest be if that's how every "HE STILL HASN'T SIGNED YET!!!" thread was concluded?

Very true.

But.

This early i wont say your 1st rounder as it could still be a mid 1st rounder, and you would need more.

Still my point though that he wont be going. [emoji41]

Fair enough, Carlton would probably have to cough up a bit more, not sure how much though

I dont think thats going to happen.

We have salary cap space throwing a kitchen sink at Josh Kelly.. GWS offer $500k over four years we offer $1 million over six years

Hopper suits the age profile on the lower scale... but Docherty, Cripps and Plowman are the only ones in the 21-23 age bracket and need a couple more like Josh Kelly and one other......

How come your board's most reliable source has said SOS wants Hopper badly, then?

Essendon won't have a chance with him.

I assume our plan will be our 2018 first round pick, as we are locked into Ben Silvagni who will be a likely top 10 and will probably just stock up on some draft points to pay for him.

Why exactly wouldn't Essendon be a chance?

I just don't think you will be able to compete contract wise.

That being said, your list of unsigned players beyond this year is quite large:

Morgan, Howlett, Goddard, Stanton, McKenna, Parish, Zaharakis, Hocking, J.Merrett, Long, Kelly, Watson, Daniher, Green, Baguley, Brown, Fantasia, Ambrose, Draper, McKernan, Eades. *Contract status via Footywire, might not be up to date.

You would have a better idea than me on who in that list of players gets a new contract by end of the year, but I assume players such as Parish, Zaharakis, Daniher and Fantasia would be demanding some good coin. Plus the big contracts you signed Merrett, Heppell, Hooker and Hurley too.

Maybe 'no' chance is extreme, rumors of Hopper to Carlton were heard last season. Time will tell.

Bolded most likely to be offered contracts with Daniher and Fantasia the only real big pay increases there. Parish will get a nice contract, but it will be the next one that he earns serious coin. Red are rookies and the unbolded names are either up in the air or likely to be delisted/retire, however, if they do re-sign it won't be on much coin.

Seen this a bit, have you ever actually watched him? Has anyone ever actually seen him play? It is literally impossible and quite ridiculous to say a bloke will likely be a top 10 pick next year when he's done absolutely nothing to suggest he can play at all. Rhys Mathieson was the best player in the country at 16 years of age and went pick 39, but a kid who didn't even make the metro under 16s side last year is 'a likely top 10 pick'. He's not even playing for Chargers, is he even on the list?

Now obviously form at that age is not the be all and end all of getting drafted, but saying a guy with literally 0 form will likely go in the top 10 is possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It's like saying Harry Mckay will be top 10 in the Brownlow next year, it's not technically impossible, but it's absolutely absurd and crazy, hence no one would suggest it, just like no one should even suggest Ben Silvagni will be drafted, let alone be a top 10 pick, as there is no evidence he will be.

Has Laverde re signed yet though?

Guess we will wait and see. I hope you are right and we get him for a bargain, much like his older brother.

We will see him in national under 18 comps next year which will be a good test for him but ticks all the boxes dominates junior league, best and fairest etc
