We will see him in national under 18 comps next year which will be a good test for him but ticks all the boxes dominates junior league, best and fairest etc
Not much to suggest he's a lock for the national champs, will have very little exposed form when they select those squads. Winning junior bnfs literally doesn't mean a thing, could name that many blokes who dominated my junior league and didn't get close to being drafted or even playing TAC. 'Ticking all the boxes' for me would be being on a TAC list, showing promise/putting up good results at the under 16 carnival and in TAC footy, not sure he even played ones last season at Xavier, whereas someone like Brander was kicking bags every week as a year 10 for GGS. Dominating juniors and winning bnfs is ticking the two most insignificant boxes of the many that need to be ticked.

Essendon won't have a chance with him.

I assume our plan will be our 2018 first round pick, as we are locked into Ben Silvagni who will be a likely top 10 and will probably just stock up on some draft points to pay for him.

Haha do you realize what some kids in that age group are already doing?

Silvagni wasn't in the recent u17/u18 top prospects mixed game held 2 weeks ago.

It does matter - Jack Silvagni won two B & F at Greythorn...His father wants him to study this year and school footy is fine he did well for kew comets kicking some 50 goals in 15 games. Ben is being mentored by Luke Hodge and will be coached by Luke Ball at Xaviers.

Tom Silvagni will play under 15s this year I think.. has kicked eight in a game for Greythorn... will be an interesting year for Tom.

Even Jack - they are all so young. So unfair posting about them but it is what it is...Ben is a talent.

Jack won two bnfs at greythorn and went pick 53, not sure this proves your point at all, I'll reiterate, winning junior bnfs means nothing at all when it comes to being drafted. Being mentored by a guy who plays AFL and has a young family, not sure how much time he'll get tbh. Coached by a former midfielder, again not sure this will turn him into a supreme talent. It is what it is, he's not done a single thing and you've never seen him play nor has anyone else and that is because he hasn't been picked in anything yet, so you cannot call him a talent.

But hey let's say he 'is a talent', which he may well be, then it's still downright ridiculous to say he's a likely top 10 pick at this stage.

I will bet my house on Carlton's recruiting strategy not being 'sell the farm for 2018 because this kid who hasn't played anything other than club footy but kicked 3 goals a game in under15s will be a top 10 pick.'

We will see next year when he plays representative football.

I just don't think you will be able to compete contract wise.

That being said, your list of unsigned players beyond this year is quite large:

Morgan, Howlett, Goddard, Stanton, McKenna, Parish, Zaharakis, Hocking, J.Merrett, Long, Kelly, Watson, Daniher, Green, Baguley, Brown, Fantasia, Ambrose, Draper, McKernan, Eades. *Contract status via Footywire, might not be up to date.

You would have a better idea than me on who in that list of players gets a new contract by end of the year, but I assume players such as Parish, Zaharakis, Daniher and Fantasia would be demanding some good coin. Plus the big contracts you signed Merrett, Heppell, Hooker and Hurley too.

Maybe 'no' chance is extreme, rumors of Hopper to Carlton were heard last season. Time will tell.
If we had enough money to table a sizeable offer to O'Meara last year, we've definitely got enough space to chase Hopper who would be being offered less. Hopper is a good player, but he won't be on a marquee contract no matter who he signs with.

As I said, it's not impossible that he'll be a top 10 pick, but to say he's a likely top 10 pick and that Carlton will base their trading strategies around this fact, especially when you've never seen him play, is simply absurd.

Every chance one of he, Matt Kennedy or Setterfield get to the Bombers in the next year or 2. None of them will demand huge contracts at this stage of their careers so we'll be able to fit them in comfortably.

That's a bit of a stretch, SOS has history with us and we have traded a lot with Carlton where it's mutually beneficial. It's disrespectful to both clubs to say Carlton wouldn't act in their best interest, and that we would childishly resent it.

Add Paul Brodie who is now national recruiting manager at Carlton

If they arent asking for big contracts why leave?

Play for a side not going anywhere or one playing finals. Hmmmm tough choice.

The reason these guys would leave would be big contacts so I'm not sure that logic follows. Steele is the closest example and he left because Hopper had leapfrogged him. Hopper, OTOH, is playing just about every game. Kennedy is more fringe but is getting more regular game time than Steele. If they leave it won't be for peanuts, contract-wise.

Our 2018 1st pick + something FOR Hopper & M Kennedy is what im hoping to see.
Hoping is a good word for that scenario.

That something would have to be at least another top 1st rounder. At least.

If they seek a move then each of them will looking for either greater opportunity or a big payday. Greater opportunity doesn't really apply to Hopper - who I'd argue is best-22 - so if he moves then he is looking for a big contract. There is no point speculating about Setterfield at this stage. Kennedy appears to be the one most likely to see greater opportunity, which means that out of him and Hopper he is the one who is more likely to move without a big contract offer.
