Traded Jacob Hopper [Trade with #53, #63 to Richmond for #31 and F1]

Tigers have done well here, really strengthened a key area of weakness in their team.

Gave up a fair bit but they took a lot of kids last year.

Only query for me is that these are long-ass contracts for players who are not guns (yet).
Contracts mean nothing these days look at Grundy for example can always push players out or move them on if need be but to be honest Tarranto and Hopper should be set easily for 7 years even if their form dipped slightly. With Martin , Cotchin and Prestia all be finished within 2-3 years you imagine these two will be the centrepiece of that midfield for years to come.

These two lads might not be A grade stars but they fit the bill for what we needed, our biggest weakness over the last few years has been contested footy and tackling pressure from the mids which is what these guys do. It will allow Dusty to play almost full time forward with spurts in the guts and take the pressure off Prestia. They probably don't fit the bill as perfect for say Geelong as they do us but on the flip side the younger guys with speed that the cats picked up perfectly suit them given their list.

It’s weird .... tiger and giant fans all seem pretty happy ... other clubs sounding offended
Yeah can’t complain how both clubs have conducted themselves re Taranto and Hopper, GWS had the surplus of Mids and Richmond needed some

Fair value was agreed apon, including to the point that other players like Soldo got involved and could of been traded if he desired by no pressure either

No fuss, not much posturing and ultimately a good outcome for all party’s

Well yes, injury is the main concern I was thinking of, particularly as Hopper seems to get hurt a lot.
The data doesn't really back up your statement. Sure in 2022 he missed a big chunk, but the previous 4 years he played 23, 17 (shortened COVID year), 23, 21 games. That's just about full seasons each year.

His first 2 years he played 10 and 13 games, but that's just as likely due to the fact he was a young player finding his way in the side.

Hopper doesn't represent any more risk than any other AFL player who has had an injury. He's not a Scott Gumbleton, but not everyone is a Brent Harvey.

How are the other kids you took last year coming along? Obvs we have all seen Gibcus but what of the rest?

Sonsie showed plenty when he got in the team, even held his spot in our final. Clarke looked good in limited opportunity in the seniors. Banks and Brown both showed glimpses in the vfl, particularly Banks playing wing

All 5 kids look good early , Gibcus starting KPD in his first season is just incredible, Sonsie with another preseason will hopefully cement his spot in our midfield in his second year, Clarke looks like all class but needs to get bigger, brown and banks solid in VFL and will push for selection next year.
We also debuted Miller, Biggy and Cumberland. 6 total debuts for 23’
Maurice Junior now starting 22.
We have a solid group of kids coming through

Haha we shall see.

Maybe all this cap fixing is to get Green long term eh?
You would hope GWS prioritise a bit better going forward. Sad part is that GWS have two tough issues that are going to continually arise.

You keep replenishing your list with top end draft picks, which usually eventually ask for top tier money. It just seems like a circle for you. Draft top end talent (that 9/10 will be from outside of NSW) then eventually be put into a tough position to either pay or they request a trade.

The only way this can change is if your club has a dramatic overhaul of culture or you start drafting NSW talent.

If not you’ll be watching the next Hopper, Taranto walk out the door again in 2-3 years and the bigger clubs like Richmond, Collingwood, Geelongs will all keep staying strong.

Already has changed. We are drafting a need instead of best available. Hense the outrage about us maybe not making Brisbane match.

Green is a “local”.

Taranto is 24 and won the b/f when his side made the grand final.

Last two season equivalent;

Mills. Cameron/Guthrie. Bont. Oliver.
