Fair eough Jacobs wants to go home for more game time, but I don't see the point in trading for Sellars if he is just another ruckman we can add to our ever expanding ruck division. Shouldn't we be asking for a lot more out of this deal?
He's a KPP mate, but he's been playing as a mobile ruck for us as we've got most of our KPPs well and truly locked down, and have needed another ruck.

He's potentially a good CHB, but he wont get the opportunity to become one with us (Phil Davis being the reason).

If Sellar goes, it'd be a good get for you, and a good trade for us - but there will definitely be a pick involved, prolly our second rounder.

Our football department has stated continuosly that pick 14 is almost certainly off the table

Judd was not getting to Carlton without Pick #1 being part of the deal according to the West Coast Eagles' Football Department.

One thing all football followers should have learnt about football clubs is they are very rarely going to publicly state what is the true situation.

I would accept nothing less than pick 14 and we give you our second rounder for your third rounder.

To me that seems like a very fair deal. You get another second rounder plus a ready made ruckman with a promising future while we get an early pick (yet still speculative) and another third rounder.

I just don't understand how that is unreasonable. Jacobs is going to be very good for you guys trust me, the guy has 'firery' determination to succeed and broke through for half of the season as our second ruckman before Warnock showed improvement and just overtook him.

Sellar on the other hand would be horrible for us and anyone for that matter. We already have a KPD with more talent than him in Austin. He will not play ruck (If Jacobs struggled to break in than Sellar has NO HOPE), so what the hell will we do with him?

I'll tell you what, we'll end up delisting him in 2 years trust me!

There really is no point in some of your fellow supporters coming here and pumping up his tyres now when they havn't been doing that all year and trying to make him sound like a fair deal. We aren't that stupid to actually believe that crap, his worth is nowhere near Jacobs and is even lower than Austin IMO.

So, if you guys really are interested in Jacobs, then pick 14 must be on the table because I would rather get nothing then to waste time with Sellar or some other shithouse footballer.

the crows will have to give the blues a good deal, as they also want walker who can only go if carlton lets him, due to him being contracted still. could you see that happening if adelaide plays hard ball with the jacobs deal !!!!!????????

****ing trade week.

We cop it the worst, I swear.

Every bloody year.

Calm down mate.

2007 we got Judd 'nuff said
2008 we got Warnock for pick 24 and some other picks
2009 we got Hendo and pick 12 for Fev :o , jury still out on McLean

2010? Who knows?

BUT I swear if this club trades Jacobs for Sellar and a late second rounder I'm gonna be flipping pissed off big time!

Nothing like a firm resolve. :thumbsu:

The door was left slightly ajar on our first pick when we were chasing serious targets - in particular, our first rounder would almost certainly have been the core of a package to get Ryan Griffen away from the Bulldogs when we were chasing him.

Other than for a player of that calibre - and the only player of that calibre yet to announce a contract signing is Gary Ablett - our first rounder would remain locked away.

Judd was not getting to Carlton without Pick #1 being part of the deal according to the West Coast Eagles' Football Department.

Good analogy - now Carlton are the Eagles, the demanded pick is 14 instead of 1, Adelaide are Carlton, and Judd is Jacobs, a player with significantly less value.

Who says we are "really" interested.

Jacobs has come out and said he wants to play for Adelaide, not Adelaide has come out and says we want Jacobs. I'm sure we're happy to have him though ;)

But surely, a deal in principle has already been agreed on. They wouldn't announce it this far out otherwise. You won't get pick 14 (unless it involves swapping your first rounder as part of the deal) but it will be fair

The Crows are just too nice to bend someone over

have heard a rumour that we are keen on sellar which made me sick tbh i would love for us to nick Talia which may have been made easier wuth the emergance of phil davis. second for mine would be mckernan (how ever you spell it) both these deals would possibly have to be sweatened but those should be our prime targets
in my opinion, if carlton throws walker into that deal, we would be after talia and another player, or their compensation pick for bock. is it at the end of the first round, or second ??? maybe not enough !!! but taller kids who maybe could help with our kpp needs.:D

Jacobs isn't Judd, he isn't going to Captain our Club or lead our marketing efforts.

The Draft Board has a thread on this, very interesting to see the neutral views on the value of Jacobs/Walker.

When has Big Footy been neutral towards Carlton and our players?

If Walker was a dud like a few of the tools have posted in that discussion, then Adelaide and the Dogs wouldn't be chasing him. Nothing is as moronic as Glenno23's suggestion that Adelaide hasn't been in Jacobs' ear. The Crows have obviously offered Jacobs a heap of coin and the chance to be the number one ruck to leave Carlton.

Read the article on AFL.com. Crows officials met with Jacobs and Walker now why would you guys do that if you weren't really interested?

The trade I suggested earlier seems very fair and if it doesn't seem fair to you, could you please explain why?

I can explain why for him, just like any neutral supporter could. There's no way in hell they're going to give up a top 15 pick for a 17-game player who's uncontracted and wants out.
:thumbsu: you forgot to mention the sweetener of upgrading our third rounder for their second rounder.

I agree. I think we lost leverage when Jacobs declared Adelaide as his preferred destination. It would have been better if had both Port Adelaide and Adelaide fighting over Jacobs.

Somehow I don't think the threat of the PSD is that strong or would be used by Carlton as it would be a bigger loss for Carlton (to gain nothing and lose a player like Jacobs) and just a missed opportunity for Adelaide (who could look at other ruck options with their trade offer). There would only be one winner in this scenario WCE or Richmond or $uns.

Throwing Walker into the mix helps a bit but I still think Adelaide has the upper hand.
not if they want walker to be traded to them they don`t !!! he is still contracted to carlton and can only leave if a deal is struck !!!

Its more about the the speculation about every uncontracted player and his dog (regardless of playing ability) being invariably linked to Carlton, and the endless repetitive 'negotiations' between posters debating value, and the inevitable homoerotic references to getting 'bent over'.

Add in a dash of Richmond supporters making hopefull claims to be 'in the Box seat' for laughs.

Its like a train wreck that I just cant look away from!

Really? Well how many games did Warnock play for Freo? Not too many, IIRC. They demanded pick 6 for him!

Everyone on here seems to compare what other ruckman have gone for recently.

Warnock went for pick 24 in the 2008 draft, ONE OF THE STRONGEST DRAFTS!

While this year the draft depth is as thin as paper due to GC taking the 17 year olds!

So this year's pick 14 is close to actually being equal to pick 24 in the 2008 draft.

Jacobs was rucking ahead of Warnock in the middle part of this year.

A bit like Sellar who is supposedly a good prospect in spite of playing fewer games than Warnock.

Some of you South Australians clearly licked the lead paint as children.

No one said Jacobs was worth pick 14.

gopower might get a better response on the bay.

We don't expect pick 14 outright, but we don't think pick 33 and a player their club wants to cut isn't fair compensation. They rate Jacobs high enough to get him to walk like Mclean, so pick 20 to 25 is fair for a 22 year old ruck who his best footy ahead of him. Their second round pick will be pushed down the order due to all the band three compensation the AFL has handed out.

The fact Jacobs has played 17 games isn't at all relevant.

Carlton traded pick 24 and pick 56 for an uncontracted ruckman who had played just 21 games in three seasons. Lack of opportunity would be one reason why Jacobs has only played 17 games. Adelaide clearly believes Jacobs has his best footy ahead of him as a member of their best 22.

You're missing the point. They don't have to give you fair compensation. They certainly don't have to pay you overs, which any deal involving pick 14 would be unless they got your pick 18 in return (e.g. Jacobs + Carlton's first rounder to Adelaide, Adelaide's first and second rounder to Carlton).

No one said Jacobs was worth pick 14.

i think we should just leave it to the professionals and see what the end results are.
correct me if i'm wrong/it might have already been mentioned but isnt sellar good mates with gibbsy?
Sellar, Gibbs and Austin all attended Brighton Secondary School. Sellar and Gibbs both also played for Glenelg pre-draft. probably still are friends to some degree.

That is what I am afraid of as well.

Adelaide definitely has the upper hand as Jacobs is uncontracted.
why can`t people see that adelaide will do an ok deal with carlton, because they actually want jacobs and would miss out on him in the pre-season draft !!! it does`nt make sense to upset carlton and then try to get walker.........does it ??????????????? they have stated that those two guys are on their wanted list, so what is the point of them offering carlton rubbish in their negotiations..............the crows would end up with a big fat nothing !!!!!!!!! carlton won`t be stupid about these deals, because it is their best chance to improve their list before the draft. it could also add to their picks in the draft. nuff said!!!

So Warnock went for 24, and Jacobs can't get a game ahead of Warnock. Yet Jacobs is worth pick 14. Cool story bro.

Actually Jacobs was getting games ahead of Warnock for most of the year, he was backup to Kreuzer. Warnock hit some good form when given his chance this year and whose to say Jacobs won't improve? He is younger than Warnock by 1 year AND was more dominant against Sydney in our elimination final. There is plenty of promise behind Jacobs to warrant pick 14 in this year's draft.

BTW the deal also involes us giving a 2nd rounder for their third rounder.
