Ryder and Clark were top 10 picks and would be top 5 in this draft. Sellar has done little at AFL level. McKernan hasn't played a game. Mentioning them in the same breath as Paddy and Mitch just indicates how deluded you Crows supporters truly are.

Anyway, Darren Jolly smashed St Kilda. Genuine ruckmen will beat undersized part-timers any day of the week, regardless of any rule changes.

Fair call and I agree regarding the genuine ruckman comment. I dont think it can be understated how big an out Gardiner was for the grand final replay for this reason. JOlly was enormous in that game.

The rule chnages make it more difficult to carry two less mobile ruckmen. Jacobs is clearly on the less mobile side. It may even lead to playing two or three mobile leaping ruckmen that you can interchange repeatedly on the field and bench and have them crash into bigger bodied ruckmen all day while maintaining foot speed around the ground.

Champions like JOlly, Sandilands etc will still get a game because they are champions. Average to good rucks like Jacobs and Maric may struggle and mobile leaping ruckmen may come into the game even more.

I just dont see the value in Jacobs. 2nd rounder at best and would rather keep Sellar and definitely McKernan

I think you're really underrating Jacobs. He will easily be Adelaide's first ruck, he'll make your mids play a lot better and is still improving at a rapid rate.

He can only ever play as a #1 ruck, at least now he can. And before everyone brings up Kruezer, he's versatile enough to cover that weakness.

Jacobs was going to have to fight with Maric (and it will be a fight initially Carlton fans (though Jacobs has more upside), Maric has a bigger tank and knows our system), not saying he'll have to battle to the death, but he'll have to prove he can pla #1 ruck. All this rule change does is put more pressure on #2 rucks. Maric can play 'some' #2.

Very true... we thought McLean was a walk in player when we got him... dont get me wrong... he will force his way in due to injuries... but you can't guarantee someone a spot... yes Jacobs can become Adelaide's number 1... but he is no walk up before he battles with Maric...
