Matty Wright this year:20.4 disposals - 3.6 marks - 3.7 tackles - 3.83 inside 50s - 2.59 clearances - 1.0 goals
Those stats aren't that impressive champ
Look at Breust's record against the top 8 teams in his career. He's an elite small forward. I wouldn't expect a Carlton supporter to know.

Let's have some context here, Put Breust in Carlton's side of the last 6 years and his stats would drop off.

The real question is can Hawthorn really get both Mitchell & O'Meara? I can't see how they would have room in the salary cap for both. Unless they trade a higher paid player out. But say they can who on the Hawks list would Gold Coast want in the deal?

It's been made pretty abundantly clear how this is possible.

We have heaps of room in the cap after club legends HALVED there salaries on one year contracts next year. We also had room before that after losing Lake, Hale and Suckling last year and not replacing them with anyone..

Wasn't Breust offered to GWS last year?
As has been pointed out, it was reported that GWS inquired about Breust but that Hawthorn (and likely Breust) understandably knocked them back.
It does raise an interesting possibility though. Perhaps not GWS, but if Breust is to be made available, and if he was open to moving, perhaps the other Sydney team might be more of a realistic option? He might not be overly interested in GC, but as a NSW boy, and heading to another contender, maybe he would be open to Sydney.
Breust for Mitchell, then 2 firsts for O'Meara and change???

Also they can back end both contracts so when Hodge,Mitchell,Gibson,Burgoyne retire we will have plenty of room in the salary cap.

That some people can't work this out staggers me.

BF posters trying to work out how much salary cap room clubs have based on contract guesses and zero knowledge of staging of payments is just ridiculous, give it up.

If a club couldn't afford a player's wage within the salary cap, they wouldn't be chasing them.

How many times has a player nominated a club and at the last minute the club says 'oops, we counted wrong, we can't afford him'.

The contracts are sorted, it's just the trade deals that need to be worked out.

Exactly.... I'd also imagine by now trades for these boys are pretty close to being worked out.

The AFL (Ken Wood) analyse and sign off on every trade a club makes.

From last years Dangerfield trade:

"But there is one major problem with trying something like that again. Every trade has to be approved by the AFL and that only happens once salary cap watchdog Ken Wood ticks off that it represents clear commercial value."

Bruest is worth more then Mitchell. If a Trade like that happened it would be like Bruest for Mitchell and a trade of there 1st for Brad Hill compo or our 2nd. Then that 1st goes to Gc with another 1st.

Don't be so sure about Breust and Mitchell.
Even so, fair starting point for negotiations right?

Which is why I'm not giving you my opinion, I'm giving you the facts.

There is literally a 0% chance you will get him for anything less.
You're giving us facts? I would gladly have a little side bet with you as to how far off your "facts" are compared to what we actually give up for O'meara

Considering how many trades go down to the last day of trade week, I'd say the trades are definitely the hardest part to work out.

In order to get trades done early in the piece, which Hawthorn will need to do, they'll have to have a win-win in mind or offer fair value. The problem I see for Hawthorn is that:

Hill + pick 14 + maybe pick 14 next year < Mitchell + O'Meara

Not by much, but I think they'll have to give up something a bit more to get those two over the line. (Breust is probably a bit too much, he's much better than Hill) Then they have to find suitable clubs to make those trades happen. The sticking point will be off-loading Hill. They need the return they get from him to on-sell to sort the other two. But Hill is Freo's third priority behind McCarthy and now Hogan. It's a big spanner in Hawthorn's works. Who would have thought that Hogan wanting to go home could be such a problem for Hawthorn!

If Breust does want to go elsewhere for more cash, then Hawthorn will get the trades done easily but I'm not sure he does and I think the hawks would want to get the trades through without losing Breust.

Much harder than salaries.

There is also the new player agreement which will see caps rise by as much as 10% - which Im pretty sure adds another $1m or so to the cap.

We had $500k to throw at Carlisle. We reduced payments to 4 old guys by about $1m. There is another $1m coming from the new agreement. There is anywhere from $500k to $1m more when our 4 old guys retire (assuming half next year, half the year after it would be $500k more each year).

So we will be simply rolling in cash, so that part of the equation is simply a no-brainer. The question is whether we can make the right offers to get the trades done.

I agree with Saint, if Breust wants to go somewhere then we will easily get Mitchell, OMeara and Vickery. Sicily, Obrien, Litherland, Whitecross, Langford would all have some currency, but nowhere near the same as Breust.

My goodness!
This thread has gotten beyond a joke from non Hawks supporters to the point of not even readable because of the garbage being flipped about.
Thanks... Unwatch
You know you can just silently unwatch the thread without stamping your feet and yelling it out to everyone?

I'm not sure how many times that has to be repeated in the same thread.

We have 4 highly paid player that have recently taken big pay cuts, and will all retire over the next 2 years. All we have to do is back end contracts. It's really not difficult.
