Am I the only one who isn't too fussed with keeping pick 10? Kid could be a jet and could partner well with Fyfe/Martin next year ready for another tilt!

Well thanks to the Hawks we will have two 2017 first rounders plus a 2018 first rounder to put us in a good position to trade for either (though Kelly/Shiel from GWS are looking attractive), plus of course way more salary cap space than the Hawks have too (we have been running at the salary cap minimum% and so can go over 100% for several years when we go full FA hunting). Plus due to Carlisle the AFL has allowed the Saints to bank part of what was meant to be his 2016 salary into 2017 = AFL's biggest war-chest.

Mediators coming in tomorrow. Question is not whether it will get done, but what else is Hawthorn giving up?
Has to be a player to either GC or a third party.
Or alternatively, Hawthorn takes him in the national draft. The only potential bidders there meeting O'Meara's demands before pick 10 would be Carlton in my opinion.

As a neutral supporter I think that 10 and 48 given the cirumstances is not far off from being a true reflection of where he is worth. It's under but not significantly.

Whilst I can understand what Gold Coast are trying to do by being tough on the trade it is going to back fire on them. I can see JOM going to Hawthorn for nothing.

I also don't understand this thread. Gold Coast being praised by everyone for being tough yet 7 years ago everyone derided St Kilda for playing hard ball and losing Ball for nothing. We all know how well that worked out for them in the 2010 Grand Finals.

If I was a player looking to enter the draft I would consider this playing it tough stance to be a massive negative if I was to be drafted to Gold Coast. Who knows what will happen if I genuinely wanted to leave the club for various reasons. Would I need to sit out a year because the club decided that being tough is more important then looking after it's players.

If thats the attitude they want to bring to ther table then I am happy for them to lose their players for nothing.
This is my feeling too. I understand what GC are saying - we won't be seen as a feeder club. Having said that we are offering pick 10 for a player who might not play again (in any meaningful sense).
If he goes to the ND or PSD and we get him GC loose badly - not saying we win btw, but they loose very badly.
Should they accept our offer? I'm not sure, but this aggressive stance may backfire badly.

what do the suns actually want?
Nobody knows. Well, their list manager thought he knew but the President keeps overruling him.

I feel sorry for Ashcroft. He is going to have a hell of a job working trades in future. Only way GCS will ever recruit is paying massive overs for average players.

The president is not a lone rogue. He is a reflective of the group

I thought Fyfe/ Martin were free agents next year? Hawks only hope would to make an unmatchable offer with the retirements of Burgoyne and Hodge, if we fail tomorrow, we could launch an unmatchable bid for Fyfe at least.

No, we want a 1st round pick and a best 22 player.
that's overs for a bloke who hasn't played in 2 years

imo
hawthorn out 10 and 48
in jom

suns in pick 10 and lyons
out jom

adelaide out lyons
in 48

is a fair deal jom doesn't want to be there in the end pick 10 is better then nothing gives you multiple first round picks to rebuild your midfield. at this stage cocherane is just being a campaigner for no reason

Yet there are reports of Ashcroft agreeing to numerous offers only for Cochrane to overrule him.

Sending players to the draft rather than trading is insane. Everyone cheers now because JOM may not get to Hawthorn but when it happens over and over there will be a realisation that GCS are off the rails.

also easy saying the suns want a best 22 player yet the players they are linked too don't want to move to the gold coast.

biggest myth this trade period the suns don't want picks just want players they have been offered players and turned them all down

Name a player, I've asked you this twice during trade week and you never reply, who would you realistically take? Your either not responding because you know it's silly to say Smith, Breust, Gunston etc, which makes me think you just don't want to see a trade happen at all?

I'd be fine with Hartung or Langford just don't know if the club is.

Yes, Freo will be barracking for the JOM trade to get up. Although I still think things would have to go dramatically bad again at Freo for him to consider moving. He seems to be the type that really means it when says he's delaying contract talks to concentrate on X. Said the same in 2014 and signed up again with no problems. Mind you, he's also said he'd be remiss not to explore his free agency options, so we can still all dream about what may be next year.
