In that statement where Cochrane completely shit the bed he did say that they wanted established players.

The problem then becomes who the hell wants to go to the gold Coast?
Guys who want to play AFL. It's why I mentioned Barlow early in the thread, but basically got laughed at. Just to clarify, I was never suggesting he was on equal par.

I still believe it might be a 3way involving Hawks and Freo.

Smith, pick 15+ and Hartung for Omeara.

Take that and run I would have thought.

Hartung very avg

Smith good player in a top side

Pick 15-18 I would think
Not gonna happen. Smith is in the leadership group.

Clubs like Hawthorn don't get the buy-in to sacrifice salary for success and the culture that they do by trading out leaders.

Suns have set the bar high in the media to make a point, but the end trade will be for less than they've proposed, as O'Meara's true worth is directory related to his current condition and his 2 years out of the Suns senior line up.

Hawthorn were one of the driving forces behind bringing in the trading of future draft picks.

Nah Hawthorn getting ripped off badly in that one. Do people think O'Meara's still worth two top ten picks or do they think because Rocket said he'd like it that that's what a team will actually have to pay?

It might be Hawthorn's 2016 and 2017 first rounder plus Hartung for O'Meara and GC 2016 2nd round pick?
Not a chance.

He hasn't played senior football for 2 years. It's a calculated risk trading for him, and 2x first rounders plus a young elite runner is well and truly above the odds.

Rocket also indicated the Treloar deal was the precedent for 2 x1st rd picks. Poor old Rocket forgot that Treloar had a clean bill of health, nearly as cringeworthy as the tripe that comes from the GC CEO.

Pick 19 and next years first unless we can somehow get another first this year
Habout pick 1 for JOM and Steele?

Your medical staff will have a big say in his value, if they're confident they can get him right this and next years first rounders wouldn't be out of the question, considering those first rounders won't be far off second rounders anyway.

But Barlow is worth **** all
I understand that.

GC want midfielders. They are not going to get elite midfielders, well certainly doesn't seem likely. Draft picks are also of no real value to them as they already have 5 inside the top 30.

So, Hawks need to find a player wanting to go to GC? Do they have anyone?? Does any Melbourne based team have anyone??? Barlow might go to extend his career and would be a useful midfielder. No one can say he wouldn't be, he's 28 and was playing excellent football.

So if GC don't want picks, they may have to entertain moving up in the draft order?

Hawks lose: Hill and pick 14 and 32
Gain: JOM and Freo's pick 39

Freo lose: Barlow and pick 3 and 39
Gain: Hill and 9 and pick 32

GC lose: JOM and pick 9
Gain: Barlow and pick 3 and 14

This is a quick example and to be fair is about the sort of deal GC might have to accept. I doubt Freo will downgrade pick 3, but just highlighting what could eventuate. If pick 32 gets us McCarthy then we may downgrade pick 3 (really really doubt it)

Anyway, just saying Barlow is worth nothing is silly. He's reasonable steak knives.

Obviously if GC don't want to pursue moving up the order or view Barlow as no good then good luck finding anyone to deal with them.

Go watch some highlights of O'Meara - when fit he is a rolls Royce.

Hawks got Burgoyne right when his knee was dodgy.

If two first rounders (both likely to be late teens) and Hartung gets the deal done then Hawks have done good business. I don't think GC would accept that as they don't need picks.

Jon Ralph (I know!) said the 5 clubs having a crack are Hawthorn, Essendon, Carlton, St Kilda and North, I think it was and it is expected that Jaeger will meet at least a couple of them this weekend. Says he hasn't met any clubs prior to this.
All have money in the cap, but not all have the picks.

Hawthorn will need to trade to get better picks.
Essendon can screw the Suns with the use of the Pre-season
Blues have pick 5 that they can use
Saints will have pick 10 and will need to beef up the offer.
North as the saints.

That ain't the same, Burgoyne hadn't missed two years of footy
He played the last 6 rounds....All that he missed was half a season...... we could actually see what we were buying.

You'd give up pick three for Hill?

People actually believe this too, I bet.

Stars, Cavelliers,
And Bombers supporters think Hibberd is worth around this mark as well. Amazing.
Know which one I'd prefer to pick up.
O'Meara is a potentially elite mid but hasn't played in two years and may never return to his early form. Hibberd is a very good half-back in his prime. Doesn't exactly sound like an 'amazing' difference.

No.

We'd get 9 back. So a 6 pick downgrade. GC have pick 4 and 6, so perhaps an understanding they don't select a particular player.

We also don't have a second rounder to get Hill, so this could be a creative way to do it. We also don't have a second rounder to get McCarthy and upgrading pick 39 to 32 might get us McCarthy.

Obviously need to look at the entirety of my suggestion.

I never said Barlow for JOM yet people reply - Barlow is crap
I never said pick 3 for Hill yet people reply as you have.

I honestly think my suggestion is very reasonable.

GC get pick 14, move from 9 to 3 and also get a mature aged midfielder who could play 3 seasons and you know will win you the ball.
