Weird trade for GWS. O’Meara clearly never got to his best and they have plenty of this type.
He's past his best. But they've got experienced mids walking out the door.

Mitchell played him out of position all year. No knowing where his best is at now.
I wonder if this is just a bit of posturing to force Collingwood to pay up more for Mitchell? "Well we don't HAVE to let Mitchell go, we've got Plan B here...."
Or perhaps a sign that the Mitchell deal is not going through at all?
Would be odd IMHO to turf out all of their experienced guys; you think they'd retain at least a couple.

Assumes we have a plan other than "get rid of everyone who Clarko brought in".
O'Meara isn't the A grade elite but he will do a lot of heavy lifting and make space for those that are.
Can be such a good player - but it's not consistent. No team has ever thought "oh no we're coming up against O'Meara this weekend, we'll have to put heaps of work into stopping him".

The hope is that we get 27 for Mitchell if it's used through the Grundy deal, and then 19 for O'Meara.
The club went on record last year of saying that we want a certain amount of selections within the first 30 over the next 3 drafts.
This would give us 6, 19, 24 and 27. A very solid hand.
Seems a very strange trade for both. GWS don’t really need him and they are trying to get their cap under control as it is.
And if Hawthorn lose Gunston, Mitchell, and JOM in one fell swoop they are going to end up like North Melbourne 2020-2022.

Apparently the story is GWS give a decent pick and Hawthorn pay all (or most) of his salary....

Youre getting pick 7 and a player for a F3.
Using that formula I dont think GWS' pick 1 is enough.

We'd be paying a large portion of O'Meara's contract.
Mitchell IS worth that. If Esava is potentially netting you blokes pick 33 I can't believe you'd consider Mitchell's lower than that.

Pretty good upcoming draft crop to be bottom 4, especially with Tassie and compromised drafts likely around the corner.
Almost like Mitchell is planning for it.
