Jaeger O'Meara whats he worth?

Better than Crouch, but Crouch is an excellent young player.

Our rucks are going very well at the moment and we have some options developing for a key forward.

So you would be happy with viney + jaeger over viney + pick 10 & 11?

It's not unprecedented. Sydney or Port (I can't remember which, but both had the picks to offer) tried to trade their two mid-first round picks in 2009 to Melbourne for pick 2, in order to select Dustin Martin and was knocked back. So two mid-first round picks is roughly equal to a top 3 pick in clubs' minds.

It was to Richmond for pick 3.

The 2012 draft is reported to be the best in over a decade.
Big call to trade away two picks which in a normal draft could be the equivalent of picks 4 & 5.

And O'Meara's projected to be in the top couple of that 2012 draft.

To be completely honest it sounds as though one, you don't have much knowledge about junior football and two, you have been sucked in by the media hype.

It's not the 'draft to end all drafts' and I wouldn't be surprised if the media build up is based mainly on the lack of depth in the last couple due to GWS and GC 17 year old concessions.

Three absolute class games?

I don't count one, and I watched every one.

He's played two really promising games.

That's all.

The hype around this lad is a bit unjustified.

Not in my eyes it ain't.(butcher was talked as a # 1 pick remember, as you can see why.)

Jaeger is talked as a top 3 next as of today , a truckload can happen in 12 months too.

Anyhow, let's agree to disagree.

As someone who has a bit of knowledge on junior football, the top 20 for that draft is rather good. There are probably more than 5 players who could go top 5 and about 5 players who would go at number 1 normally.

I know people say that all the time, but it is very good at the top end. Not sure about after that. It's not a super draft though like 2001, 2006 and 2008 which had talent stretching right down to the end.

Sorry? He kicked bags of 6 goals and 4 goals in an awful team. He played two excellent games, one ok game (his debut) and one poor one (the AO game). Thats a pretty good start. Obviously Trengove is going to be a very good player, Melbourne need more players like him who are tough and strong and willing to work hard. I'm happy with Butcher though and I shudder to think of what our future forward line stocks would look without him. Westhoff is inconsistent and is better off up the ground, Ebert isn't tall enough to be a key forward, Daniel Stewart can do some special things, but is invisible for 95% of the game, Schulz is doing very well, but not really a long term prospect.

So I think all Port fans would say that we got what we needed, but Demons fans aren't exactly complaining about Trengove either.

seems gold coast are in the box seat for this kid. but considering they would be there rivals and compared to each other, would GWS want to make them stronger?

If you are serious in a premiership in the next five years you will not be giving gold coast Omera. Would be the worst thing for the afl as gold coast will be near unstoppable in four years.

Bingo - no club in their right mind would hand a franchise player to a club likely to be their main rival for a flag in 4-5 years.

Not bad for a guy with a groin injury that has hurt his pace and strength all year.

O'Meara needs to improve his endurance and gut running to reach his full potential. But it's the things he does already that make you accept he's going to be quality. Coniglio > O'Meara > Swallow IMO.

Don't quite agree with this in the sense that it is very difficult to assess who is going to be your main rival in 4 - 5 years time. You take the best offer to maximise your own list, not worry about what other clubs are going to be like in 4 or 5 years time. Would Geelong have hesitated to take pick #4 from Collingwood back in 2006?

Que?

I was talking about Butcher!

The hype around O'Meara is totally justified, and I've seen him play as well.
