Jaeger O'Meara whats he worth?

Witts would be top 15 in my opinion and Jagear would be number 1 or 2 in this draft and number 1 in the next

If he's as good as everyone says i'd like the Pies to offer something like Wellingham, Blair and Goldsack, most Pie fans would spit at me for suggesting it but apart from Wellers the other 2 are fringe players for us but they would be best 22 in most AFL clubs, what pick do you think that would net?

the thing is giantforce u really cant gaurentee O'meara will be a star when his so young, so its a bit of a risk. Whilst O'meara is worth tonnes, many clubs will turn down what GWS put on the table, and thus lower the cost. The clubs are smart enough not to turn this into a bidding war and lose a lot for a player who cant even play the next year and might not even turn out that great (as many number 1 picks do).

IMO GWS will want a lot, but it will come down to who has the best comp of young fringe mature age bodies to give. Lets not forget GWS HAVE to give away these picks, so there not in a great barginning position if clubs keep turning down their ridiculas offers.

Edit* people need to keep a lid on and remember O'Meara MIGHT not even be "the next judd". And fans will be in outrage if they lose their best players for somone who cant even play for a year plus, the memberships +attendence alone would deter clubs.

O'meara is different to judd, i would compare more to a cotchin/shuey type but even quicker, Jaeger is one of the fastest players ever to be drafted, when he runs and carries the footy he is down the other end of the ground in a flash.

He's just all class, and is a beautiful kick of the footy, likes the rough stuff as well.

Wouldnt be suprised to see port giving up quiet a few of their okay players for O'Meara, get ridda 4-5 of their okay players (and maybe a medium pick) to give the giants some mature grunt for low cost and give port some hope!

God I hope so, because our OK players aren't working here :)

I'd happily give them all of Westhoff, Kane, Rodan and Salopek plus our end of round PP for him, if it enabled us to keep pick 4 and get him!

what would be a fair trade for jake stringer from geelong??

he is currently training with geelong under the AIS program

The same as for Crouch, Kennedy, or anyone else. Assuming GWS only offers off two picks and O'Meara is the first, any other nominated kid are all effectively the same. You have to remember that GWS offers picks in a minidraft, not the kids themselves. So picking a smokey that no one else wants isn't going to save you anything, because you're still competing for that second pick against the popular selections.

i thought each club puts a bid out for a particular player, not a bid for a pick

that reduces the currency of the mini draft system, potentially losing quality for a player you dont even want

Nah, it's for a pick, WS have no power over who you pick though, if they offer one pick this year O'Meara will almost certainy be taken with that pick, honestly though, i can't see why they wouldn't offer all 4 picks this year, IMO they will take what they get but the first 2 picks will come at a decent price, teams could get lucky with the last 2 picks but you wouldn't pay much for them.

And, you don't have to accept the pick, my understanding is the clubs will offer players for the picks and WS will decide who gets what pick, if you don't like the pick given to you don't take it, that's my understanding of it anyway, or maybe you send your offer and request what pick that offer's for, if you're unsuccessfull they 'may' come back to you to see if you'll take a lesser pick, it's all very vague if you ask me, not enough info.

.... i can't see why they wouldn't offer all 4 picks this year

I would use 3, allows you to trade for the access of the best 17 year old in the country all over again, he won't be of Jeager quality but he will certainly be top ten of the 2013 draft and catch a hefty price

Perhaps I dont understand the regulations regarding the 16 year olds........but if O'Meara is any good, why doesnt GWS just not give him away this year, and the kid enters the draft next year. Good chance that GWS will get the number 1 pick, and they can get him that way.

Depends on what other talent is coming thru for next years draft, but if the kid is a so called shoe-in for number 1 draft pick next year, then GWS can have their cake and eat it to.

If they adopt this stategy, then the clubs are really bidding for the also-rans of the underage kids this year.

Thoughts ???

Because they have to give up 2 picks this year and who ever bids the highest gets the first pick which will be O'meara.

GWS has made it clear that they want senior players, however, if Scully were to leave the Dees, whatever compensation we would be offered, i'd pass onto GWS.

If that were to be tier 1 compo, many would say it wouldn't be enough for a guaranteed #1 pick next year. Scully went #1 only 2 years ago, and even with tier 1 compo (Mid 1st round pick + 1st round pick after club's #1 pick), it does not equal what we gave up for him.

Effectively #1 pick for #1 pick, if they are that desperate for Tom, then it isn't anything to sneeze at, especially given the 5-year life-span. If anything more is needed we could always chuck in Cale Morton.:D.

Now that the players have nominated, GWS only auctions off the picks. The clubs can then take any of the nominated players, so inevitably the first pick will be O'Meara. GWS can choose to auction off no picks, but the value they get by offering a couple this year and a couple next will probably outweigh O'Meara.

Because they have to give up 2 picks this year and who ever bids the highest gets the first pick which will be O'meara.

They don't have to auction off two picks - they could hold three or four for next year (or use more this one), but it is the most likely scenario.

Will GWS use all four picks this year ? Obviously JOM will be one. Can he play next year ? I mean, the team that picks him up, is he actually allowed to play or is he just on the list ?

He may be able to play with the State league affiliate of which ever team gets him but not at AFL level.

On a side note I like how Fremantle are gunning for the JOM pick and think that pick 16 will be sufficient. Lets see GC Suns are rumored to be offering pick 4, Saints are rumored to be offering Goddard.

Any suggestions on how Freo could sweeten the deal?

Z.Clarke? They might be getting M.Clarke as a replacement anyway...

Nah Clarke is off the table. A few other trades will need to pan out before Freo could put together it's best offer. Something involving Griffin, Lower, Duffield, Michael Johnson, maybe an Ibbotson could eventuate.

Would Freo be willing to give up Lower ? Wouldn't he be good depth for when Morabito is fit with Fyfe/Hill/Mzungu ? Perhaps that performance against the Pies might have saved him.

Can see the Duffield logic though, GWS have almost set there midfield, will start chasing backmen soon enough.
