I think its suicide ESPECIALLY with the game being at Etihad. The concrete jungle!!

His knee issue is between his patella and the rest of his knee. Surface is unlikely to be a factor, as the tendon and knee muscles are in tact and very stable. It's much more concerning whether his knees are tracking well as he changes direction and that he avoids knocks which might cause inflammation.

So they gave up their first and second round picks for 2017 + picks 23 and 36 in 2016 for a guy they are paying 450-550k, while paying 500k for Tyrone Vickery?

What Hawthorn gave up to get him was to appease GC
What Hawthorn pay him and for how long is between the club and him.
The two aren't related.

Sydney gave up nothing for Franklin, yet at the time he was the highest paid player ever

It seems that the 15 other times the front loading of Vickery's contract to gain Richmond a favorable compo pick has been explained to you hasn't sunken in yet.

Of all the Hawthorn obsessed posters, he is perhaps the least well informed.

I'm not responding to those other two because they barely have an IQ of 100 between them, but this is a reasonable post.

It's correlation/causation argument. If you give up picks 1, 2 and 3 in a trade you aren't obliged to pay the player anything other than what you negotiate with said player, but the correlation between how much is given up and how highly a player is paid is very strong. If you go back to last year all the talk about O'Meara to Hawthorn was about the contract before the trade occurred.

Franklin was a FA, a different case altogether.

I'd be very surprised if any player manager would advise a client to sign a contract with a new club for significantly less money than is offered at his current club or elsewhere. That's not their thing. Also trade negotiations don't happen in isolation. O'Meara's manager (doing his job) would have spoken to his client and all 18 clubs before it was announced O'Meara wanted to join Hawthorn. It's not like he picked a club, then the two clubs worked out a trade, then player and club worked out a contract. That isn't how it works.

(Guys like Lake, Dal Santo etc. are a bit different. Late 20s and early 30s when you've had a long career money might not be a driver. You might be looking for an extra year or two, the chance to join a flag prospect etc.)

Do people not understand you over pay to get a free agent, if you want to save cap space you have to cough up some draftpicks or players. We over paid to get insurance

You pay what you have to to avoid matching and needing to force a trade. Or you don't.

There is still such thing as a bad FA deal.

Ironic.

Ugh, I can't put you on ignore and you cannot process 'don't quote me again'.
If you continue put forward opinions as fact you're going to be quoted.

This isn't a free for all where you're not going to get queried.

Of course he turned his back on money.

Good that you know the intimate details of all the player contracts while everyone else is just offering opinion.

Surprised you don't just go full Dockerland and delete any posts that don't agree with the narrative.

Never said I did know the intimate details of contracts, but if you think O'Meara had to have been offered a superior $$$ contract to have left the Suns then you obviously haven't been paying attention to what's been going on at that club for 5 years.

**** me, is there something in the water in Eastern Melbourne that inhibits comprehension skills?

I never said he left to chase $, I said he was offered $750-800k by the club he was already at - a figure published in a statement by said club - and that set the ball park for suiting clubs.

What's more realistic?

O'Meara is offered $750-800k to stay with Gold Coast and has other clubs sniffing around knowing that figure and signs for Hawthorn for around that figure?

or

O'Meara is offered $750-800k to stay with Gold Coast and has other clubs sniffing around knowing that figure and signs for Hawthorn for $500k because Hawthorn exceptionalism?
