So many of them like Smith, Burton, Sicily, Puopolo, Breust and Shiels have turned into decent footballers.

The Hawks record of finding players who weren't first round picks since 2009 is pretty damn impressive, especially when you consider ALL these players below are in the Hawks best 22 right now and they all played last night.

Muston was pick 22 and Garlett pick 38. Hardly first round picks.

In the context of a discussion about how good Hawthorn's recruiting has been, you don't get the point of a post that outlines a number of successful pieces of recruiting? The point is that Hawthorn have been able to bring quality players onto the list without access to early picks. That ability enables the club to perhaps take more risks. Some come off, others don't. We can still put quality players on the park even if we don't get any return on the third round pick we spent to get Garlett.

Any way I don't really care. Your mob had a great night tonight , you have that class inside your club with culture and long term success, so do the Hawks .

O 'Meara has only played a few games ,true , but he is class , that's why he gets recruited, and why he's persevered with.
It is when your recruiting and trade staff " know something". They have the feel for things, I'd suspect your established club also has those types behind the scenes.

Now its a pity that you get all fired up in conversation and sound nasty , its not a fight mate.
Perhaps you need to learn about conversation and showing some manners, and maturing, that way we can have sensible debate, not foolish aggression.

So you were interested in O'meara because you recruit well? Not because he is a gun with enormous potential?

Yes he looked good and not at his peak potential, will be though, hopefully the knee thing has been sorted , but time will tell. To those who ask why is Hawthorn so keen on him, ask yourselves why they were so keen on a few others like "Burgoyne" "Gibson" "Hale" senior recruits like Poppy, why were they keen on Cyril, or Ceglar from Pies ask why to a lot of questions like that.
The answer is WE RECRUIT WELL VERY BLOODY WELL!!!!!! Easy?

He's still coming to terms with the fact that his supposedly young and talented side who most pundits had finally returning to the 8 this year, has zero 2017 rising star nominations, went 0-5 in games without retiring Nick, and requires a miracle to make finals. Not being impressed with promising 50 gamers is all he has left now.

I've said this before over at the Hawthorn boards, but I reckon they got themselves a steal. Using Dixon as the comparative here but:

- On Dixon leaving, Eade, Malceski, Cochrane were saying he has 'Glass ankles', and was a terrible blight on the clubs culture. Comments that he would be constantly injured. In essence, they said he wouldn't last a season.
- Consequently, they were knocking on him (and stuck the knife in a bit after he left), and went for the bitter ex 'we didn't want him anyway' approach, despite it being VERY clear he was the one that wanted out. Cochrane being the lippiest of them all.
- Went ok in 2016. Filled a huge need for Port Adelaide, however.
- 2017: Plays every single game of the H/A season (first time ever), and does the following (image thanks to Alyx)

But I think my key point here is: I think O'Meara's injury issues have been woefully mismanaged and his potential nowhere near fulfilled. At any other club - especially one like Hawthorn where their fitness staff is A grade, he will fulfill this potential. I think even after the sacking of their fitness staff, they still clearly have huge issues. I see so many correlations between the O'Meara and Dixon scenario (ie: Cochrane is a lippy campaigner) that I find tough to ignore. O'Meara will be an absolute superstar and Hawks got themselves a steal.

Give Prestia another season at the Tigers and I bet you he will be their second or third best midfielder behind Dusty as well.

There is clearly some great, loyal players at the Suns such as May and Lynch, but something ****ing smells up there. I'm convinced more and more that its a back-end problem. Eade is the most utterly mediocre coach of all time and people can knock on McKenna all they like, but replacing mediocrity with proven mediocrity was stupidity beyond belief. I think the Suns can make it, and I think its a worthy endeavour to stick by, but a serious cleanout needs to occur, and some more $$ by the AFL for facilities need to be thrown their way. Also, **** Cochrane off. A blight on the club.

Had a few moments when the game looked too quick for him but he worked into the game and was a monster around the stoppages.

Hopefully now he can have a good rest, get the body right and hit a full pre-season and get back o his best.

Yep - in the last two games we've seen moments.

From here it's all about how many of them he can string together in games on a consistent basis - but I'm really glad he played those last two games.

On Friday night he had a huge second quarter and seemed to run out of puff in the second half.

Game time was managed especially in the second half. Only Glass spent less time on the ground out of all Hawthorn players.

Hopefully both fit and firing for rd1. I reckon Jaeger, Titch and Shiels are going to run a pretty strong inside midfield group for the Hawks in 2018.

It's not his pace that concerns me so much, it's his tendency to handball, substantially more than his early years.

If that is simply a confidence issue he should be able to overcome it as confidence in his physical state goes up.

If it's a change in his game driven by a permanent change, he's in trouble - he's a bog average midfielder when preferring the handball.
