Obviously not ideal but hes got to look at the positivesSorry
Footy is Jaegers life . Do you think this is a walk in the park for him. Do you think he may be gutteref . Well he bloody is.
Oh please. Hawthorne and O'Meara are separate entities. It's entirely reasonable to be hugely sympathetic to O'Meara whilst still bring critical of the Hawthorne hubris that lead them to make the decisions they did.I hate Hawthorn with every fibre of my being, but I'm with you on this one. It's poor form (and bad Karma) to gloat or wish for the injury of a player. At the end of the day, football is a game, it is meant to be entertainment, and people are seriously celebrating a young man suffering a serious physical injury that could end his career?
What I'm hoping for is that my team can beat yours. My wish is that O'Meara gets back to football, back to his best... and it still doesn't matter because my team has improved so much that we can beat you regardless!
If Carlton won a premiership because a rare illness ran through 17 other clubs and they all got sick, so we Bradburied our way to victory, I'd feel it was hollow. What I want is for Carlton's #17 to be against the best, greatest, most awesome opposition possible. An inspirational run in which we smash a monstrous GWS team in the first run of the finals, a gargantuan Essendon in week 2 (by 1 point), a phenomenal Hawthorn in the prelim (by 100 points), and a mighty Collingwood team in the Grand Final (by 1 point, after trailing by 76 at half time)

thats the right sentiment, though Hawthorn did bet the house on a risky proposition.I feel bad for JOM because even if he does get back to playing 20+ games a season, and remains largely injury-free, for the price the Hawks they paid for him they need him to be a bona fide superstar - a perennial AA and Brownlow contender like Dangerfield for us or Judd for Carlton.
On the flipside the Tom Mitchell deal is looking a good one for them, and they clearly won the Gibson-Gunston trades. You win some, you lose some...
In fact, Hawthorn (without the 'e'), its supporters and the media who covers them are all separate entities.Oh please. Hawthorne and O'Meara are separate entities. It's entirely reasonable to be hugely sympathetic to O'Meara whilst still bring critical of the Hawthorne hubris that lead them to make the decisions they did.
In fact that same hubris lead them to playing O'Meara in meaningless preseason games almost as if to validate the trade.
And as for the supporters, well, many of them gleefully posted pics of Jaeger running in preseason as validation themselves, and many will not believe for a second their coach and club are at all fallible and will not even consider that the messages their club are giving them is nothing but spin.
Jaeger deserved better than to be fast tracked into a situation it seems he wasn't ever right for
Really good point. Having said that, it does seems like a very reactive trade strategy to me: recruiting Vickery & O'Meara were clear risks.Seems like a good young man. Had a brief chat to him at training and seemed very level-headed.
Perhaps he saw what Hawthorn was able to achieve with Burgoyne back 6-7 years ago, what we were able to do with Cyril, what we've been able to do with Ryan Burton and thought we could do that for him. Mate, just maybe his body isn't fixable. We've have significantly more success at the trade table than failures, and in this case we have probably lost (although he may come good). All in all, clubs have used first round draft picks many times and they haven't worked out. We've done pretty well over the past decade, so if the price of that is the odd draft bust and a couple of years down the bottom I'll take that every day of the week.
I actually wish Jaeger the best and hope he can return to fitness and get back to playing good footy.
But in saying that we are entitled to feel a little bitter. We gave up pick 1 for a 17 year old that couldn't play for 12 months. We named our junior program 'Jaegers Juniors', we sent him overseas for his initial treatment and then endured two years of him in the stands after his freak injury. We then offer him a lucrative long term contract to remain, despite the risks. We were extremely loyal to him, but his departure left a very sour taste. Now, the Hawthorn medical team need to deliver as they seduced him away.
There was more than a hint of desperation and even stubbornness in the deal. Clarko doesn't like to get beaten, and on this occasion Tony Cochrane called his bluff and probably won.Really good point. Having said that, it does seems like a very reactive trade strategy to me: recruiting Vickery & O'Meara were clear risks.
And I I still question the use of the word "karma": there's no such thing.
Great post. I hope Hawks supporters take time to understand what you're saying here.

He was a free agent. You shouldn't even have got that. Compensation is bullshitRaise you a buddy Franklin
Pick 19
So you guys now blaming Gold Coast medics for Omearas plightHawk supporters understand GC supporters would be frustrated by what happened with Jaeger. While we are taking time to empathize with you, how about GC supporters take time to empathize with Jaeger......he had an issue with his knee that appears to me was mismanaged. He felt moving on was going to be the best for him to sort his issue out and forge a decent career. I'm not saying that the Hawks medical team are miracle workers or anything like that but there is a history of poorly managed injuries at the Suns such as Ablett, Swallow, Gorringe, Bock, Prestia and others. Just think about what you would do if you were in his situation. The biggest mistake the Suns made with him was sending him overseas IMO.

He was sent overseas for surgery, at some considerable cost. He returned, was rehabbing for some time before returning to football managed, through NEAFL. Unfortunately after a few games broke down again.
He has moved clubs, rehabbing, returned to football managed, via preseason games to AFL appearances. Unfortunately after a few games he broke down again.
One of the hardest things he is facing is that his treatment at Gold Coast may not have been the issue, which is starting to look concerningly chronic. Hawthorns medical team may well be very good but they have so far only really managed what Gold Coast's did for Jaegar which was an attempt to get him back to AFL which has been set back. Again.
....and many will not believe for a second their coach and club are at all fallible and will not even consider that the messages their club are giving them is nothing but spin.
Lucky for Jager he got a big contract.
If he pulls the pin would that mean he forfeits his remaining contract? If so he may as well just stay on and collect big pay packets for nothing
I actually wish Jaeger the best and hope he can return to fitness and get back to playing good footy.

To be fair Tom Mitchell was a great trade
At this stage the Tom Mitchell trade is a good one, not a great one for me.
Once he can become more damaging as opposed to accumulating then it will be a great trade.
