Jaeger O'Meara

I'm sure he made the call, as the great team man he is, but probably knowing he probably wouldn't get it. Anyway, separate discussion...
I reckon if he'd asked Clarko for it he would have got it

The fact you're lumping O'Meara in with Mayne probably says enough about O'Meara i reckon.

$800'000+ a year, what a waste.

O'Meara is on 600,000 per year you idiot. I love how opposition supporters like yourself act like they know exactly how much Hawthorn players get paid as if they work inside the club.

All player contracts are speculation, however at the time it was well documented that GC offered him a contract extension of $700k-$800k a year which he turned down. You reckon he turned down $800k a year and turned down 33% extra cash when he certainly didn't need to?

I like how club supporters like you act like they know how much their clubs players are on and make suggestions with no evidence. No one knows exactly what he is on, difference is i use logic to deduce the ball park, whereas you just suggest a number that fits your narrative.

I am not lumping O'Meara in with Mayne. derp.

Mayne is on Collingwoods list, while you just posted that you didn't realize that any of your recent busts were destroying your cap space.

.
Of course he turned his back on money.

You think O'Meara left GC purely for money?

The same club that Eade has since potted. The same club the AFL have to manage like a sock puppet since it's inception. The same club who have had more fitness and conditioning staff than I've had hot meals.

O'Meara didn't turn down the GC offer for extra cash. He turned it down because he could see the place is a shell of a club that was not going to get the best out of him and he wanted out.

It's pointless engaging them.

Anyway, O'Meara was offer $750-800k p.a. by Gold Coast - as confirmed by a statement from Gold Coast. Anyone that thinks he left for $150-200k less per year on a 5 year deal is kidding themselves.

He's not on 800k a year. No where near it unfortunately. I've heard rumours 450-550k ish a season. Left because of the culture of the place, his girlfriend wanting to live in Melbourne and also the medical team at the Suns are apparently a major cause as to why O'meara and others at the Suns are constantly injured. If I was JOM I would have done the same.

So they gave up their first and second round picks for 2017 + picks 23 and 36 in 2016 for a guy they are paying 450-550k, while paying 500k for Tyrone Vickery?

To be honest, O'Meara taking a paycut to go to Hawthorn would have been a very shrewd business decision. I think they'll prolong his career far longer than the Sun's would have, he will get better third party opportunities in Melbourne and providing he gets his body right (which those chances are greatly increased at the Hawks), he will be in line for a massive payrise toward the end of this contract.

Yes

Contract may have performance clauses. If he comes good and turns into a gun I'd say his 500k gets negotiated up.

Then again maybe he's happy to stay at that level. Money doesn't mean as much to some people.
