That must have been why I’ve constantly read on here that hawks supporters thought he would step up more. I’m not trying to aimlessly bash Shiels but I do think it was ridiculous you put him on the same level as Jones, that’d be like saying Colin Garland was as good as Stratton.

It's genuinely hard to compare shiels and jones. One doesn't find a heap of the footy , has average skills yet tackles & blocks like a maniac and is defensively accountable. The other can certainly find the footy but is pretty lax defensively and doesn't hurt you much unless he's hitting the scoreboard (which he can do at times).
They are chalk and cheese...it wouldn't surprise me to see jones squeezed out of melbourne's midfield this year as there's so much quality talent coming through

Yea mate he was playing for the last month of the season in 2017 and has had no set backs. Has been in full training for the entire pre season so far and has been looking good. Absolutely no reason to think he won't be fit and ready to go round 1.

Some Hawks supporters thought he would. Some.

He’s a defensive-minded mid, a run with player who could get in and under. Always has been.

Jones is a run of the mill midfielder, lauded because he was better than everyone else when Melbourne were rubbish.
