Jaeger O'Meara

I didn't see the game last night, but O'meara has been really solid this year imo. He is a jet at centre clearances and Hawthorn would be much worse off without him in the side.

O'Meara is obviously suffering from a lack of confidence in his body or the knee injuries have just taken something away from his game. He just seems like an average midfielder, not the same as his first two Suns seasons.

I forgot Wagner’s E L I T E S P E E D

Come now, take a look at the video, there were FOUR blokes there who got beaten by a spud with a bung knee. You just tried to be cute with just tagging the old man

It’s a fail

I think he's been good this year. He's had two poor games (including last night), 3 middle range games and 3 where he was very very good.

No worse than the output of many other high end midfielders.

This thread is really ugly. It just reeks of people desperate (on both sides) to win some 18 month old, internet dick measuring contest against someone else they have never met.

He is tracking well.

You forget that he's not young.

How is 24 'not young'?

I think that most importantly, he is a polite young man who people should wish well, not mock. The actual trade price hawthorn paid for him was too high, but so what they have made many good trade decisions

No, you didn't say inexperienced, you said young
No i didn't read it again, i said he had been injured and that would have stalled his development.

24 is young in the sense of getting better as a player. Not so much in the context of growing into your body etc.

Scott Lycett is 26 this year and I still think of him as a 'young' player. But that's because he's just played his 50th game in his 8th year.

O'Meara is a good enough talent to push through and still have a stellar career. I just don't think he'll ever be the player we wanted him to be.

Best midfielder WA has produced through the current system, but he was always going to be a little reliant on his explosive pace.

No, the original post I was replying to was from someone else

He was horrendous last night and has been average at best last few weeks...however he’s now played 8 consecutive games for the first time in years. He needs a rest. His early season form was very strong. People forget he’s still young and is still improving his match fitness. He is the least of hawthorn’s issues. Him and Mitchell will become an a-grade combo. Shouldn’t play against Brisbane next week.

That's why I made the comment questioning at what age do AFL players stop getting called young. He is not young

To the sort of people who relish players failing because of the colours they wear, the fact he is a polite, upstanding man just winds them up more because usually, they aren't.

On your second point I am biased but while the price paid at the time was probably high, given he is 24 it still has some time to play out before its called too much. You also have to consider the position the Hawks were in, after years of trading out of the draft, to keep their estrategy of trading picks for established players, they needed to take a bit of a risk given the picks they had. I mean, we got Morrison with the steak knives pick and he looks like a bargain.

The average AFL player is 24 (just under). JOM is 24.
When compared to the current group of AFL players, JOM is older than average.

There you go. In terms of AFL players, JOM is basically middle aged.

There you go. TIL.

Surely we are still calling 24 pretty young though? Otherwise I better go buy a leather jacket and a Harley because Im older than I thought.

Pretty happy with O'Meara. 24 isn't truly young but Isaac Smith, Puopolo, Stratton and Burgoyne we got at advanced ages as well and they got better, and you could tell they had more to give when we got them if you paid attention, I get that feeling with O'Meara. Composed, smart and athletic.

Half the players in the competition aren't playing, bit of a silly way of looking at it. Nearly every best 22 team averages out at 25, just turning 24 is not the middle part of most players careers.

That is true as Hawthorn's team yesterday averages 26 years and 4 months which means O'Meara was under the Hawthorn average.
