Last year his output increased without Mitchell in the team, which makes a lot of sense because he was forced to take on more responsibility in the midfield. If the reverse holds true it’s actually far more likely he will go backwards in terms output, and produce similar to 2018.

I’m also not understanding the mentality that he was somehow played out of position last year. He is now a career inside midfielder (has played as a permanent outside mid since 2014) and he is best used generating clearances which was his role.

Mitchell returning only pushes him down the pecking order.
Statistically his output may drop, but that doesn't mean his performance will though. It was the main point that was being made. It gives him more freedom, less attention and the ability to do less of the heavy lifting.

Ideally he will always play a large amount as an inside mid so i agree with you that he wasn't necessarily played out of position. I do think in an ideal world he will be allowed to receive the ball more and use his speed to accelerate out of stoppages, the idea that he has lost his speed is flat out wrong. Having Mitchell return and a more experienced Worpel around him should allow that to happen.

Is it possible people are having issues with their preposition use on Bigfooty.

I recall many that said Jaegar wouldn’t get ON the park but I think it’s possible that they actually meant OFF...Is this right?

It's an important point threesixpio and I'm glad you raised it

You realise football is a contested game and and players have to play on an opponent when the ball is in dispute?

Good teams back their systems and don’t put much planning into players like O’Meara.
Hahahaha try watching a game mate.

Jaeger was tagged heavily, probably as much as anyone in the comp. Probably because he was easy pickings with such limited midfield support.

This thread is filled with people that said he'd never ever play another game, attempting to stick the boots in due to the fact he is performing like an above average player rather than a superstar.

Captain chaos is a Richmond fan masquerading as a Geelong supporter for some reason. Shouldn't be allowed to be honest, goes around throwing insults at other clubs, then when genuine fans want genuine discussion we are tarred with the same brush and cop crap as retribution. Surely admin can do something about that?

Sounds like captain chaos either needs to get back into his classroom or get a life

Saying any variation of ‘go watch some more games’ needs to stop being the default response ITT. It’s very petty, and adds zero to the discussion.

Few teams operate with taggers, and matching up on a player at a stoppage doesn’t indicate a tag is being applied. Naturally a teams third best midfielder is more often than not opposed to a team’s better player around the stoppage to allow their best ball winners to get a good run at it. This has far more to do with engineering an advantageous stoppage scenario rather than preventing a ball-winner from getting the clearance.

Saying he was tagged as much as anyone in the comp is laughable. He’s just not that good. Watch any old Richmond game to see how much time and effort opposition players put into trying to stop Martin, and you’ll see there’s no particular defensive design for Jaeger.

If you claim though, that Jaeger didn't have a tag, and was just "matched up at stoppages" , then telling you to watch some more footy is not petty, but sound advice.
