I am hoping Chad is injured because he looks lazy last few weeks.

Newcombe agree has been great, and agree on the divergence. Actually would probably compliment each other in the same side, so send us Jai :p

Newcombe would be huge for Sydney. Would allow Rowbottom to focus entirely on his defensive strengths. Helps out Heeney with another big body. Allows Chad to play forward a bit more.

Funnily enough, Hawthorn needs a player like Warner, who can explode from congestion and act as another scoring option.

Not proposing a trade though 😜🤣

Newk is actually starting to break tags this season which is the next evolution of a gun mid.

Broke the Drew tag against Port and had Atkins run with him on Easter Monday and monstered him. Bedford got the better of him slightly against GWS but was still able to impact.

Newcombe is great but the recency bias is pretty funny .

Warner was the highest rated player in the 22 and 24 finals .

If The Swans had Newcombe instead of Warner this season, you would be playing finals.

Hawks fans are gonna vote Newcombe, swans fans are gonna vote warner.

Neutrals will be split but slightly more will vote for Chad because Hawks are good and annoying for everyone else atm

and thus we have the poll tally as we do rn

They're just very different players.

What would be incredible is having both in the same team, I believe the Swans were keen on Jai in that mid season draft so it could have happened..

I think the fact Warner has hardly fired a short in finals (especially in 2 Grannies so) sar and Newcombe has been Hawthorn's BOG so far in their finals campaign this season is a factor that also came into my line of thinking as a neutral.

Chad had 29 and 2 goals (18 CP, 10 CLR) in 2022 GF. Performed in most of the finals he has played in also

Interesting to see how this thread has developed over time - which acts as a warning about writing either one off.

So far, it's been:

2022: Warner
2023: Newcombe
2024: 1st half Warner, 2nd half Newcombe (fairly even overall)
2025: Newcombe

Chad had 29 and 2 goals (18 CP, 10 CLR) in 2022 GF. Performed in most of the finals he has played in also

He has had some good finals. However, Warner has collected 6 coaches votes in 8 finals, receiving votes once. His averages tend to go down, averaging 21 disposals, 4 clearances, under 3 tackles and 1 goal + assist. Newcombe, however, has received 33 coaches votes in 4 finals, receiving votes in every game (his worst rating is second best on ground). His averages take a massive jump upwards, averaging 32 disposals, 7 clearances, 4 tackles and 2 goals + assists. It's early days yet, but thus far finals performance is a 'separator' between the 2, given how close everything else has been.
